|
|
I have a 56' bug and I'm trying to put the shift rod through the hanging bracket but the rod barely fits and there is no way the bushing will fit in there. Any idea why. It is the rod that I pulled out but its been awhile and I can't remember if there was even a bushing in there to begin with. |

Make sure you grease thoroughly where the shift rod passes through the bracket; technically that bracket is the bushing. |

On Pre '59 cars, the shift rod hanger was equipped with a "leaf spring" to put some tension of the shift rod. This "leaf" usually breaks after several years of use. I don't think the OEM hanger is available anymore. So, many people have upgraded to the 1961-later style which utilizes a plastic bushing
This is the early Pre '60 style w/ "leaf spring"-

Thanks for the info. I did get it in andit fits. I'm not sure if the spring in there I'll look and see. I did grease the heck out of it though. |

How can you upgrade this in a enclosed tunnel? I'll love to hear some feedback... _________________ Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't you complicate your mind |
