I acquired a 1999 GLS with 166k about 3 months ago.
1st issue, alternator, replaced
2nd torsion bar adjuster nut seized then came "unhooked" from the frame....
Couldn't find one in the States, so ,8 weeks later, new bolt.
I have been driving it for a week, CEL light was on so upon scanning
P0740, I haven't experienced any hard up or down shifts.
Only thing aside from "the sweet" spot for the tranny, when going from park to Drive it takes a second or two to feel it engage.
Previous maintenance mostly unknown. I have done some zero Stage with new plugs, wires, alternator 150amp.
I had planned on transmission service anyway, drain and fill with new filter etc.
Any input?
And a few pics how I looked when I bought it.

I would drop the trans pan and inspect the wire harness. They are often pretty degraded by this time due to repeated heat cycling. I haven't looked for the specs, but you might be able to check resistance values in the TC solenoid circuit. _________________ Casey--
