Any tips for plugging these big holes when heat isn't used? I have an OG late breastplate that has been powder coated to match the rest of my sheetmetal, but I'm not running heat, so those two big holes for heat need to be plugged somehow. I have an aftermarket breastplate w/o the holes, but it isn't powder coated, and it doesn't fit right, probably because it's for an earlier car.

I looked that up. Those are all either plastic or rubber. I'm afraid they would melt/burn being right above the exhaust...

They won't get hot enough to burn or melt. There are rubber grommets that go around the heater hose normally and those hold up fine.

I use big rubber stoppers to plug my rear tin holes, from Ace Hardware.

However, the other day at Leslie's Pool Supply I saw big rubber stoppers that actually had a wingnut to tighten them up, and reasonable too. Tapered Winterizing Plug

I can't recall the exact hole size on these, but it's bigger than 2", more like 2.25" IIRC. Cheap enough to experiment with.

I used aluminum flashing and rivets. I did this 20 years ago. Let me know if you need more photos.

Does your other tin without the holes not fit because the tin behind the pulley is different?

Knowing what you car looks like (nice) I think it would be better to get the correct pulley tin to fit your rear tin and get them both powder coated.

Most likely you need this shaped pulley tin to match up with your rear tin
https://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/1962.htm

The tin in your prev photos with heater hoses appears to be original tin that uses a different pulley tin.

Let's say you have a 2 inch hole to plug the rear tin.

1. Buy some aluminum sheet from home depot https://www.homedepot.com/p/M-D-Building-Products-.../202091748
2. Get an M4 or close nut and bolt. About 3/4 inch long.
3. Cut two circular discs out of the aluminum about half inch larger than the hole. So, about 2 1/2 inch diameter for this example.
4. Drill a hole in center of both disks large enough to accommodate the M4 or similar bolt.
5. Sandwich the engine tin between the two discs. Put the bolt through the top so that it goes from the top disc and then through the bottom disc and put the nut under the bottom disc.
6. Tighten the nut and bolt. The pressure from the nut and bolt will keep the engine tin sandwiched between the the two discs.

You can even paint the discs to the color you want.

I have a Brazilian breastplate. No fresh air or heat riser.

I just measured the large holes in the rear breastplate that are used for the fresh air hoses. The holes are 60 mm dia. (2.34"). You could use an aluminum plug like this, painting it with satin, semi, or gloss black to match your powdercoated plate. Cut 3 sets of narrow tabs in the bottom "rim" so that you can bend them up against the underside of the breast plate to hold them in.
https://www.ventmyhouse.com/2-5-round-aluminum-plu...gIz2_D_BwE

AirHead's method could also work. You could substitute straight-slotted engine tin screws for the bolts he mentions, so that you have a reasonably unified look. Flat washer under the screw head, then a lockwasher and M6 x 1.0 mm nut from underneath to sandwich the discs together. And paint the discs as above, but keep the tin screws in their current finish so they look the same as the others.

There are these 2" plumbers test plugs too. Go to the plumbing section of any hardware store and you should be able to find them. When you crank down on the wing nut the rubber expands and will seal that hole. Just paint the top if you want.

A properly sized flush mount panel plug is what you want. Or perhaps something like this but slightly bigger https://www.mcmaster.com/9600K527

Or even this, not flush mount, but it would work well
https://www.ebay.com/itm/164195048133

Those are meant to plug holes in sheetmetal and thin panels, exactly like these engine tins.

I big thick rubber stopper and wing nut is completely unnecessary and improper for sealing a hole in thin sheetmetal. It will look terrible and wont even work as well as the proper type of plug

All of these suggestions would work, but would ruin the powdercoat effort appearance wise.

I’d just buy the right tin without holes and have it powdercoated. I just dropped my tins off to get coated...that piece was $25

CB Performance has the correct tin without the holes.

Still working on it. Here are some pics of the OG sheetmetal, and the aftermarket one I bought and had to modify to fit.

Those tins take two different tins that fit under the pulley
There are many different types:
