yup that will do it. be sure you have the thrust bearings on the cam too!!( Ive seen sets where somebody robbed the thrust and replaced it with the non thrust bearing....assholes. I wont build one with that much crank thrust clearance. .0035" max on my stuff. no reason to give it a place to bounce back and forth....from the loading and unloading of the cam gears. or clutch. IMHO you have too much clearances on crank thrust, will it work yes.just my 3 sents. Also be sure to look at all rods to see if any others are almost too close. it's good you stoped and asked and found out what was rong instead of finishing it up as many seem do. my hats off to you..if I wore a hat. |

Thanks Mark! Yeah although it is boring to watch, I'm in no hurry at all to get this engine running, but plan to have it running later this summer. Making sure nothing contacts anything else it shouldn't is a priority so this beefy engine doesn't lock up in < 1500, 2500 or even 5000 miles, pretty much never lol.
I've bolted it together and disassembled it at least twice now just to be sure everything is good.
It has double thrust cam bearings, I've tried to make sure the center and front (flywheel end) cam bearings aren't installed backwards so as to block the oil drain.
I'm going to check the crank thrust/endplay again once I have this rod to cam clearancing to my liking. .005" is where I last measured it. I bought a 0-600 ft lb torque wrench from Summit a while back, and I set the oversize crank nut and washer (38mm bolt head) to 400 ft lbs before taking the reading. I'll want to measure it again once I get the oil seal installed.

.005”? That’s pretty close still.. i shoot for .040” but others like more clearance. Maybe I’m tired and misread what you post.. |

I think the .005” is referring to his crank end play. |
