I have a sapphire am fm radio. I have managed to get it working. I now need o get a new speaker to install as I am currently using a Walmart speaker to test with. The radio has three wires, brown, brown with a white stripe, and a solid white one. The first two are for the speaker, I have confirmed that. Does anyone know what the solid white wire may be? I tried finding the model number of the radio but it is not readable on top of the radio. Thanks for your help. |

I found this on an old thread it may help you.
Here is the link to the pic that they are referencing.

"The speaker is usually brown and brown/yellow or white and white/black, the tracers being the positive. The ground goes to the stud on the back, the power is red or black, I have seen both and comes out the rear corner through a little bushing looking thing, there should be an inline fuse."
I would take a stab in the dark and say a ground of some sort.
Here is an additional link to a website that has a better diagram.

Hope this helps. If I come across any thing else in my searches I will pass it along. |

Thanks for those diagrams that is very helpful. It looks like the white wire is a dual lamp lead. I already have the lights working by simple connecting the red power lead so I may not need that white wire connected.
On these older radios, can I use a standard 8 ohm speaker or should it be a 16 ohm like the original?
Thanks again. |

The higher the OHMS the more power it takes to run it so a lower OHM speaker will be louder and you could possibly blow it if you cranked it up too much. (Unless I got that backwards), anyway it will be louder or quieter but will work.
Are you sure it says OHMS or some German equivalent? |

Ohm was German, and it is the unit of electrical resistance used world-wide. _________________ John
