That’s a fantastic result! You can’t ask for anything more than that! Well done! |

Thanks for all the encouraging words!
Can’t say enough about how well Dwayne did things— hood gaps fixed, door adjusted, rear window buffed, little nicks disappeared, and I am sure many other things that I have yet to notice. Even helped with this:
He is one of the good guys.

You Definitely DO NOT!!! That Ghia fits perfectly in that old garage, matches the era. You need to just flood it all up with old garage signs, various tools, belts and other 'spare' parts....I think it fits in just right. Car looks beautiful. As much as most of us like to do our own work, it shows what a real professional who has pride can do when given a challenge and respects the owners' vision. Even the kids on their bicycles had to stop and admire. That color alone will grab everyone's eye when driving down the road. Now just go enjoy it!

So, let the games begin.
Thought I would start with a simple circuit first — the interior light.
I had already cut it in earlier:
And mocked it up in my simulator:
Just got a 12v 10w bulb for it:
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/LMO17314N
About to go test it and its two door switches and refamiliarize myself with that harness. Might even get to taping it up and pulling it through.
Yep, I fully intend to overthink every move of this rewiring.
Sit back and enjoy the show. _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

Ok, did some familiarizing.
Hooked up the light to the power source. (After reminding myself about its functionality and testing my understanding with the multimeter.)
Was a bit surprised how it worked out. I had set the voltage to 12v and limited to the current to almost nothing 0.001 amps. Slowly increased the maximum amps and saw the voltage move up from a value way below 12v.
Of course. The resistance is constant so to vary the amps it needs to vary the voltage. (Actually I think the resistance changes with heat but I am going to ignore that fact.)
So, around 5v, it was generating about 0.5 amps (or 2.5 watts as watts = voltage x amps) and the bulb lit dimly.
And, as it is a 12volt 10 watt bulb, 12v should generate 0.8 amps (10 = 12 x 0.8 approximately).
Even with all my theorizing, I did not turn the amperage limit up any higher for fear that my understanding is still faulty.
So with this understanding under my belt, I moved forward with test wiring the light to its harness. Rather than power it up, I just checked continuity through all the switching possibilities.
It turns out that the light switch simply gives three grounding options: none (in the middle) which turns the light off permanently, attached ground wire (one side of switch) which turns the light on permanently, and door switches (the other side of the switch) which turn the light on when either door is open (each switch decouples from ground when pushed in).
Lastly, I checked to see how the door switches install. Seems they simply press in and hold by the pressure of the little bowed metal pieces. As where they touch the body is the grounding point, it seems that I might have to clear some paint where they touch.
Also realized that the wire that they attach has to be put on them from inside (i.e. the wire has to be poking out of the hole) as the switches are installed by pushing them in from the front of the hole. There is a small hole for the wire— are we talking solder here or just a pressure fit?
Note the little disk on the door that presses on the switch:
Next up, pull these wires in.
Stayed tuned! _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0
