Hi guys, I wonder I somebody can help with the next step of my restoration...
Once the 58 chassis sandblasted & painted, it was time to mount the tranny. But, here's the problem: I did not dissassemble the car, so I couldn't see then the car was fitted with an early 66 transaxle ( code number 8946532). The compatibility between the old chassis and the newer trans was solved by the previous owner in a, let's say, creative way. He welded a plate to the old model nose mount where new holes were drilled to match the chassis studs. But the result is ugly, plus the nose mount oval protuberance had to be cut, otherwise the mount cannot be bolted onto the chassis.
My question is: is there any type of mount to adapt such a tranny to the 58 chassis without having to make welding modifications or I definitely must look for a period tranny?
I enclose some pics for you to see the magnitude of the tragedy...
Thanks a lot for your opinions

You might not need to modify the body, if factory already did that like the beetle for 1958. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Hi.
I have experience of this with my ‘58.
I got my car with a “modification” like yours to fit the later transaxle.
To do the job properly you just need the correct nosecone to bolt to the later transaxle then everything lines up perfectly.
I’ll go back through my records to find out which part, but it is easily available.

You need an early bus nose cone and hockey stick and it will slide right in with the stock rubber mount.
Here is mine with a Erco nose cone, hockey stick and Berg HD mount.
