|
|
So after a lot of work & I began driving a little. I just kept thinking something is not set right. So I adjusted the valves yesterday. In the process I realized that the # 4 plug wire was off @ the plug. I don’t know if a spark had been raking to the plug or not. But every time I crank it up it ran like it was skipping then smoothed out pretty good but just didn’t have the power I thought it should have. Also I stunk like exhaust after running it, like it was rich.
Now it fired right up & the power was so much better!
Question, should I replace that plug or run it clean? |

A clean plug is a good plug.

Essentially new. I only drive her 5 miles every couple of weeks. No insurance on her yet due to I’ve been working on it a lot! |

What make/number spark plug are you running?
The spark plugs are meant to be somewhat self cleaning. Get the engine up to operating temps and take it out onto the freeway for a drive at constant speed. This should burn off any deposits on the center electrode as long as the plug is not already fouled.
This is where the temp rating of the spark plug come into play. You generally want the plug to get hot enough to burn off any deposits but not so hot as to create a hot spot that causes pre-ignition. _________________ AshMan40
