19super73, yes that looks like a match! I'm amazed how these vehicles seem to be rough in all the same places. The front signals always seem to be knocked out. Let us all know if you are restoring yours.

In some ways, quite a bit happened this week. Monday morning the 412 got towed to Buny's N' Bugs to have the engine removed.
Early afternoon I got the call that the work was done and I needed to tow it again. Here she is without the motor.
Saturday's small project was working on the gas heater exhaust pipe. Actually in not too bad shape considering. Before:

Happy Easter everyone,

Hi Walter,
I got my carpet samples from SewFine. I certainly would recommend looking at what they offer. Very original looking materials. They are located in Denver, Colorado.

Hi Bill,
So they are supplying the carpet material, I gather. You will still have to custom fit the carpet to the 412. I'm sure that won't come cheap either! I will leave that up to my interior fellow. He's really good and then that's one less decision I have to worry about. Maybe the border will open soon and I'll be able to cross border shop.
Cheers,

It's feeling a bit lonely in the shop without the 412 body. But still lots to do while waiting for the engine rebuild. Cleaned up the door sills yesterday. Before:

And the air cleaner. Before:

Walter,
You can buy the correct air filter from Auto Atlanta from the 914 1.7 section. These are hard to find and this company sells them for about $16. Thats where i’m getting mine.

Wow! Great information on the filter element. For some reason I never check AA for this part. Pretty much all companies that made one....and I have part numbdrs for all of them....quit making them in about 1999. Ray |

Hi Bill,
Sorry about the delay regarding the door sills. I used Formula 101 (I think you can see the bottle in the first picture) which is just a green cleaner. Toothbrush to scrub and possibly a bit of steel wool for the stubborn spots. Didn't do anything on the 412 last weekend since I cleaned all the windows at the house!
Cheers,

Some exciting news yesterday, Monday. My rechromer called and said the bumpers are all finished. This is really amazing since he said they wouldn't be finished until July. See what a suitcase full of money can do!
Here is Brian from Atomic Plating in Mission, BC:
And a close up of the bumper - just like a mirror.
Just in case you've forgotten what they looked like:
We chose from the front the first one and the third bumper.
Yesterday was a good day!

Just curious…what can you do with State of Washington plates on your car in Canada? I just licensed my 1967 Westy as a collector car. I still had the original plates and was able to use them which was very cool and only cost me about $46.00. No annual fees whatsoever!

Hi Bill,
Not sure what I will do with the Washington Plates. Could just hang them on the car when I'm at a car show. Or attach it to a custom toolbox. I just like trying to restore as much as possible.

More cleaning up of parts on Saturday. Wiper arms will need a new coat of paint.
Door Handle before:
Door Handles after a clean with Green Solution 101. Anyone using a better product? It would be nice to get them shiny black.
Sunvisors before:
Sunvisiors after. Are these the same size as some other VW models? I think I need new ones!
Cheers,

The sunvisors are a 411/412 part only.

I believe you are right that they are the same as "something". I think whatever else tgey fit has a very slightly different screw mount end that can be swapped.
I know.....I picked up a set of pristine ones years ago I have in a box.....and they are not out of a 411 or 412. Let me look.

After a few weekends of not working on the 412, I slowly got into it on Saturday cleaning a few more parts. Here are the inside door handle guards:
Before:
After:

Also, ISP West finished my side door trim chrome and I had it shipped to Bellingham, WA. There it sits until the Canadian border opens again. But I am confident that I will work slower than our government in this case!
