I was hoping I would not have to do this but here I am, writing my first negative feedback. It bothers me to do this, because i dont want to be in this situation nor have a buyer be upset at me for my own lack of negligence in information and disrespect.
Up to this time (4/11/21), I have not heard back again from Martin. The bottom line is that he did not describe the rear convertible glass, its metal frame and wood trim in the proper section - that being the oval category.
During our early email exchange, he affirmed it was part of a 1957 convertible bug. He also stated he had purchased 3 convertibles from the USA, so I ignorantly assumed he knew what he was talking about. After receiving the package, as soon as i opened it, I realized that it was bigger than what a true oval era convertible rear glass should look like. I have the correct glass, so visually i knew something was not right. (Attached are the 3 pictures I sent him showing the difference)
I emailed Martin and explained the difference. He then stated that maybe if I bought the correct seal it should work or that maybe there were different sizes during the same model year.
I told him that there were different sizes, but not during a specific model era. In other words, oval era had one universal size, then late 57 (58 model) had another etc. But what I bought was not what I needed nor what he had stated.
Once I wrote that I was open to suggestions as how to go about this and that I would like my money back. He replied that he didn't want to refund me my payment back.
His reasoning was:
1. That I supposedly confirmed that his part was correct for my oval convertible bug, which is a ridiculous lie, since I don't need, nor can I afford to waste money, on
wrong glass and trim. I only confirmed that it his rear glass, after receiving it, was for a late 57 convertible (58 model)... which again was not what he described.
2. That he was courteous to hold it, to help with price, but I kept my word and did buy it. BUT that has nothing to do with his part being incorrect for my bug
3. I honestly dont know if he pretended not to know such information of correct sizes OR if he purposely knew before hand, but for someone who has been working with old bugs for quite some time (a thesamba member since early 2000's) and bought 3?????. All convertible vw bug models around the world had the same rear glass size during the same year production.
I wrote to Martin to please reconsider this in good terms and refund my money and pay for it to be shipped back to him. No reply.
I even contacted Everett, asking him to please show me Martin's original ad.... I wanted to make sure I had not made a mistake in reading his ad. Sure enough, Martin placed the ad in wrong section and did not state it was for later larger rear glass model.
I would appreciate it if he could please send me my money back on paypal and pay for shipping which i can find out through USPS and get a quote
I can provide pictures of my correspondence with Martin (which I think is not his real name based on the name provided on the shipping label).
This sucks!

**** UPDATE ****
April 14 and no correspondence back. No defense, no argument, no desire to resolve.
All I can say is:
BUYER BE WARNED! Be AWARE that parts may not be described correctly or may be falsely placed in wrong category.
His communication was good and he is willing to help out, BUT now I wonder if it was because he wanted to sell a part while purposely not being transparent with what he was/is selling. |

Avoid like the plague, still no item. Austrian Post shipped the item, but it looks like they accepted a package addresses incorrectly (no state and in correct zip code on label) it appears. Seller quit communicating, and I don’t have all the info to contact Austrian Post…….look the other way and find the item elsewhere! |

Well, I almost purchased an early door handle from Martin. And then before sending funds I checked this feedback thread, and decided to back out. 3 negative posts in under a year and no positive felt like too much of a risk. Anyway I emailed him that I had changed my mind, specifically because of the feedback here. Browsing through the classifieds today I see he's decided to memorialize my decision on his ad. I could not care less, but it does say a lot about the type of person the seller is.

I bought a fuel pump from Martin and had a good experience. He shipped it within two days and provided a tracking number. I received it about 3 weeks later in the US. The item was as described/pictured.
I did bring up his negative feedback to him and he just said he didn't want to comment on it and was just selling to have fun and hoped that his buyers would have fun with the items he sold. He gave me a discount on the item to help me decide to "take a chance" given his feedback record.
Overall I would say it was a positive experience. _________________ Vintage Classic Specialist, Orange, CA

I bought used car keys from martin. The delivery lasted a long time, but martin was not at fault! The Austrian Post is slower than slush. I received the package and I received more keys than agreed , Thank you Martin |
