My manual says that it is a M7 bolt x1.25 pitch not M6. In this case the torque should only be 7 ft-lbs.

Thanks for the fast response, I'm pretty sure mine are 6mm, (10mm socket) . It's a 71 SB, maybe there were some variations.

M7 are an 11 mm so there may be differences in years. My Bentley is up to a 69 so maybe they changed later. Any other reference I see to M6 bolts on the auto transmission state 7 ft lbs.

In any case you don’t want to tighten very much.

Perhaps others may chime in too.

Cool, thanks. I need to get a Bentley for the SB, they're priced like gold here, I've got one for my bus but that was a mates who sold his Kombi.

Maybe this listing of torque specs will help:
https://www.thegoldenbug.com/en/vw_technical_articles/d115/beetle_torque_specs_1970_1979

If you scroll down to the Automatic Transmission section you should find what you are looking for. It doesn't list oil pan, but does have :
Cover to transmission case screw = 7lb-ft

Hope this helps.

Would the Autostick oil pump nuts be the same torque spec as std pump nuts? That chart doesn't list the auto pump

I would think so; because depends on the thread size, and what metal the stud goes into (the engine case, in this instance).

I do mine snug with a 1/4 drive ratchet. Any tighter could do damage.
