Hello...

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with the transmissions sold by Mid America Motorworks. I'm looking to get a rebuilt transmission for my '63 Beetle and their prices are by far the lowest I've seen. The cost for the regular swing axle transmission is $599 plus a core charge. Everywhere else I've looked are around $1,000. I'm a little wary of the low cost... I wonder if they are crappy. Does anyone have any advice?

J

They are a reseller, but I don't know who the actual builder is. Back when it was Rocky Mountain Motorworks, they were using Rancho. ( I bought one back then, and it failed on me. But I was able to get a warranty fix on that one)

I think you would have to directly ask them as to who is their transaxle supplier, but they are not under any obligation to answer that question.

I do not know how to fix this. All I can say is it all works fine for me with what I use, Firefox.

They're cheaper for a reason, so ask.

You have to figger that it will cost you to get a good one and not some junk.
Mofco is a decent one.

I have a remanufactured MoFoCo transmission in my 1970, 3 years now, very satisfied.

Owner Roy is a member here and posts here.

Are you comparing apples to apples?

Find out what the outright, and what the exchange prices are. Core prices have risen sharply in the last few years, and you may find out the MA trans IS close to $1k if buying outright.

Thanks guys... I decided to go with Mofoco. I'd rather feel safe about the quality than save a few bucks on garbage.
