It doesn't HAVE to, but it should in order to keep the door panel from distorting and keeping it snug to the window crank. The small end goes against the door. |

I forgot to put mine in around 9 years ago and it still looks fine. I figure one day when I remove the panel I'll put it on but no problems without one so far. |

If you do put the spring in, remember to also have the 'buffer ring' that goes between the window crank and the upholstery panel. Without it, the spring will cause the window crank to eventually saw through the door panel vinyl. _________________ 1972 Standard Beetle

I received today the buffer ring, but I am wonder if there is something wrong with my handles...
There is a lot of space between the handle and the ring :
Should I made the handle short ? |

I have a 72 super beetle with speakers in the doors. Does anyone know of a window crank made that will clear the speakers? |
