Hello Everyone,

I've owned and worked on Beetles since I was 15 (40 years ago). But only recently I bought my first Ghia - a '65 from Craigslist. I've always admired the Ghia from afar but didn't think I would ever own one. But here I am with yet another VW in the driveway.

I recently rebuilt a 1600 dual port engine for my '70 Beetle convertible. It runs perfectly. The new Ghia is equipped with dual carbs and a bunch of aftermarket performance parts. I don't want any of that. So I thought I would retire the '70 for a few years and put the totally stock 1600 in the Ghia.

Other than the stock air filter (and its hoses), is there any thing else that needs to be changed to get a Beetle 1600 engine into a '65 Ghia? Different tin work? Tranny mounts? Heater hoses? Adding air vents? I think the Ghia has already been converted to 12 volt, but I haven't sorted through it yet. I had it for just about 24 hours.

Thanks for any tips. And sorry if this has been covered in another thread. Here is a picture of the existing and unwanted engine.

It’s exactly the same engine. Straight bolt in. Only thing different is the air cleaner.

Sell it I guess. Any idea what it's worth?

Just to follow up. The beetle added fresh air louvres to its engine bays over the years as the engine increased in size. The Ghia doesn't require adding louvres with the 1600 dual port engine?

No. They did change the decklid i think in 1970 but made no alterations for the dual port that I’m aware of.

my memory is the Ghia had slightly different jetting in the carbie and as others have mentioned the air cleaner.
