Now see a auto-exposure camera analogy to volts, amps, and ohms in my power source.
Resistance (ohms) is constant — light is constant
Control volts, amps vary per resistance — Control shutter-speed, aperture varies per light (shutter priority mode)
Control amps, volts vary per resistance — Control aperture, shutter-speed varies per light (aperture priority)

Finally had the nerve to up the voltage to 12 to power the interior light bulb. Interestingly only about 8 watts was generated for the 10 watt bulb.

Interior light wiring fun today.

Cleared a bit of paint for ground and pulled the passenger side door switch wire through:

Attached the wire — only realized how it should go at the last moment (push up the bottom tab, put the wire in the hole, letting the spring hold the wire in):

Pushed the switch into is hole:

Hooked one lead of a multimeter to the other end of the wire and the other lead to the body.
Door open showed continuity:

Door closed did not:

Success!

Then the comedy show began. I had to hook up and tape the other wires (those to the light and those to the other door switch) THREE TIMES! The first time, I realized the harness was on the wrong side of the struts; the second time, on the wrong side of clutch cable; third time, the wires of the harness itself were intertwined.

Finally got it right and pulled them through (with a lot of back and forth coaxing):

It was late and it took too long to do this, so I have not yet wired up the other door switch and interior light.

Hemingway was said to have always stopped writing knowing what he was going to write tomorrow to give him something to get started the next day.

That’s my plan.

Here’s what the harness looks like in the trunk:

I'm realising that every thing takes longer than I expect? Is that what German engineering is all about? Brick wall

Interior light wiring- Day 2

So this is the day I am supposed to be done with rewiring the entire car.

Huh.

Well, moving along...

Got the drivers side switch attached:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Tested continuity on both switches.

Doors closed:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

One door open:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The other door open:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Let’s put in the light!
Seems to be a bit of original material in the hole for insulation:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Wired the light. I am assuming the switch goes on the right.
The “constant on” ground wire just ends in bare wire. Would love to hear how it should attach to the body. Is there some sort of clamp I can attach to it? If so, it seems that it could just clamp to the fixture.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Powered it up with 12v:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Off when both doors closed. On when either or both are open.
The drivers side ground is a little iffy. I polished the switch surfaces and I think, from inspecting the switch, that the inside of the hole needs to be clean bare metal. Got it to work but fully expect it not to in the future. Will deal with it again when it fails.

Here’s the fuse box:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Looks like I need to drill a hole in the underside of the dash to hold it in:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Fuse in interior light circuit (yes, I know it is upside down)
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I know I have asked before but I need an index to this thread!
Which slots get red fuses and which get white? How many amps for both?

I think wipers are on the docket for tomorrow!

So poked around to see where the heck the ground wire for the interior light might attach. Here is someone else’s clear view of what I am only feeling with my finger:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I find nada. I guess I could attach a clip to the wire and clip it on to the body but I seriously doubt that that is how it was done.
Until I get more information, I have pushed the light in (but not all the way):
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

At least it works with the doors and can be turned off completely. Just can’t be turned on separately.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I can see that this may be a theme in this wiring project— good enough, wait for another day to make it better. Otherwise I might not make next year’s Lime Rock Parade!

So it’s on to the wipers.
I think I have all the parts (and I wonder if there are more here than I need):
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Did you note that they are silver?

If you recall, I changed the armature of this 6v wiper motor to accommodate 12v:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to make it move.
Thought there should be continuity between the wiper body mount and 54 but found none. There is no continuity anywhere.
Tried to put 12 volts on it anyway and, as expected without continuity, nothing happened.

Hmm....

Don’t have this tab shown in Loren’s picture but that should only matter when the motor is mounted:

Taking stock, we are missing the inner and outer bearing seals:

Well, according to online stores, we already have the correct seals:

https://www.jbugs.com/product/111-265AW.html?utm_c...EcEALw_wcB

The only thing is that they do not fit over the shaft and they are too tall.

Has anybody else ever had any issues with aftermarket parts?

No? Just me?

I think the dome light is grounded via the spring loaded button that holds in place. You might have to remove a small piece of the headliner and sand the metal a bit to give it a good ground.

As for the wipers, the color is spot on, it's the roof of the car that is supposed to be black Very Happy

I read about that grounding method as well but tested that button for continuity and no go. Seemed odd to me as it looks like it would serve as a ground but... maybe I didn’t test it correctly. Will give it another go.

Thanks for playing, Loren!
