How about silver for the roof? Might have less contrast in timbre of finish than the white? And still be pretty good at reflecting the sun.

Thanks!
I've thought about that or a light grey.

But, I've got the White in hand. Even if I hate the White it will be a good base for another color.

Seeing the Ford Flex yesterday showed me that the White will be fine.
Y'all can laugh at me behind my back after I drive by! Laughing

White is a neutral, like plaid. It goes with everything.

I actually think it will be fine looking.

Dave, thanks so much for the Delaware river tour. I'm very familiar with the area, not only because Mom and uncles lived in that neck, but also I did a huge number of trips from central Vermont to Doylestown for the company I had at the time. Loved the area with the now long gone road houses that although were bars and sold drinks to transients, they were actually clubs for the locals. when I walked in. All conversation would stop for a couple of minutes. When it became obvious I was going to stay and have a few and went over to the shuffle board and idly swished one of the pucks back and forth that talk started up and I then underwent the membership committee scrutiny. After a couple of games where I got some hangers, I liked to think I passed muster.

Phone is still AWOL. I was taking a bunch of pictures of the mod where the left rear fixed window is being converted to a power window. Had it with me and did some work, then sanded the roof, took a couple of pics of the masking and then ------------ poof. Gone.

When it came time to mask, I decided to paint only to the crease about 3ish inches up from the gutter. Rounded the corners with about a 3 inch radius. A number of reasons. First, I don't want the white to be too noticeable. Next, the rear hatch joint is a perfect alignment with the crease and lastly, I can always paint more down if I want. It's harder to unpaint up if I want to change it. I like it and won't be going below the crease. Over the windshield I have about an inch and a quarter of blue--well at one time it was blue. Now it's road gravel sandblasted pits and faded. So while I was top there with the random orbital with the 220, I hit that area too. It will get Interlux Flag Blue tossed on with a brush along with the modified rear window areas.

How 'bout mirrors? Mine are even worse than the roof. Primer showing through. Do you have an opinion on whether they should match or be a different muted grey or something?

I've decided I'm going into the gutters and across the windshield rubber.

Mirrors?

I'm just going with Black.

The worst part of my Van right now are the bumpers and grills. My PO took the good bumpers and then all but GAVE me the Van! Surprised Laughing

They need a LOT of love and repair (fiberglass) but there is no time for that right now.
I think that I'll just rattle can them until I can repair them correctly, yet another 10’ visual repair.

Initially I didn't like them but have come to appreciate their function!

The forecast is telling me that I won't be painting the roof next week......
rain rain chance of rain rain rain..........
I can sand it, have it ready to go with a good forecast.

Paint? Grey roof with the grey interior, or tan roof with tan interior? Either would be a better look than the white, IMHO ;)))

My Timken RW111rear outer bearings came today!!
So excited!
Apparently they are New Old Stock.

Inside the boxes are Torrington Bearings. A wholly owned subsidy of Timken sine 2003, previously Ingersol Rand owned them.

The outer bearing is made in Germany, the Inner portion is made in Czech.

Timken sold the Czech facility in 2009.

I must admit, I’m a tad miffed that these don’t say Timken on them.
I wonder what brand my Timken inner Ball bearings will have in the box when they arrive?

Dave--Finally some pics of the roof paint job.
What it looks like from the side at normal eye height.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And bird's eye. No point in painting the part which will get cut away. Here you can see the radiuses corners.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Had a double side "practice" tarp. Silver on one side and brown on the other. Actually, the silver has some qualities both for the tin and the canvas.
At least I didn't think it was as bad as I expected. I thinking better than the white.

And the brown side and the size the finished canvas will be, but not coming so far down on the sides.

The rain will end and painting can begin for you soon. We're having a drought. Please send some water our way.

Thanks for the photos!

It seems easier to paint into the gutters.

Hopefully next week.

Today?

I got my fifth Yokohama tire mounted.
I now have a dependable spare should the need arise.

Stupid human trick of the day?
My spare tire carrier was tweaked. The tab hole for the bolt did not line up with the hole, it was off to the side of the hole.

Easy fix, a come along and gently pull it, bending the carrier so it aligns.

Simple? Right?

Well Doofus here had the backhoe right next to the Van.
"You know, if I hook a chain to the eye and tug lightly with the digger bucket it would be easy!"
Famous last words!

I hooked up the chain, wrapped it around the bucket. I swung the boom to the side to take the slack out of the chain.
That never happened!
The steel tire carrier is so flimsy the strength of the boom bent it like a taco shell before the chain slack was gone!

I'm used to pulling stumps and stuff that requires some force.

Crap crap crap crap!

Another day older....... they say as you age you still do stupid stuff, you just do it slower.........

It took an hour but it is all back in shape, a little worse for wear!
It securely holds the tire, that's all that matters right?

Dave

I dug out my spare wiper arms.

Taking a ride, expecting rain and my drivers side is less than good!
Went to figure out left and right..... they’re the same arm!

Who knew?
My current drivers side has an air foil on the arm..... Just add an “A” after the part number.

Well, I'm up to 1,200+ miles driven.
My confidence in the unit is high right now.

I do need to pull all four wheels and redo the bearings.
The front needs new rotors, the rears are just grumbling at me.

Gathering parts, I've contacted two members selling used stub axles. My Nut threads are apparently shot.
I'd rather have the parts here in hand rather than wait for them after it is torn apart.
The bearing carrier will be a big unknown until it is apart.

The used wiper arm I had on hand tightened right up nicely for todays rain.
