Anyone know what other parts/cars can be used to replace the air vent control unit on a 1999 Eurovan full camper?
Part number is VW-7D1-820-045-A
Can't find this part online, especially in this configuration (rear air (not separate rear heater) with AC button and Recirc button. Panel and knobs are fine, and it looks like the rear air (small knob on top) has a unit that is just screwed onto the main 3-dial unit. Looks like most Eurovans have different control configuration than this, but "main unit" might be same? Looks like some Jettas and Passats have this same basic mechanism, too. Are they interchangeable?
I have a 1999 Eurovan Winnebago full camper. The air vent controls stopped working--the dial on the right that directs air to dash, floor, cabin. I could hear and feel a stripped gear clicking around, and when I pulled this panel and control unit out, that's exactly what it was: plastic gear teeth were worn by the metal gear teeth so the cables weren't being pulled. (Really, VW? Plastic to metal gear interface? )
I made a few valiant attempts to re-engage the teeth and shore up the gear "floating" but it kept stripping out after a bit of use. I can pull the cables and vents still work ...just can't do it safely while driving |

Vw plastics are a bad joke.. absolute garbage
.German steel is the best. Of German plastic is much worse than china plastic...Why do you think they don't sell EV's here?? Absolute junk... My next van won't be VW unless it's a bay window..You could put in a bunch of pull cables and it's bound to last longer than your original crap...Good luck Bill
