Walt Disney movie "Now You See Him, Now You Don't" (1972) starring Kurt Russell (playing Dexter Riley) and Michael McGreevey (playing Richard Schuyler) in their 2nd movie together after "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes". Schuyler, driving his neglected '62 Beetle (missing Wolfsburg hood crest and '62 on taillamps) with a flat LF tire meets up with Riley (blue buggy, not a Manx due to the two raised ribs on hood) and friends. IMDB Trivia mentions that the Beetle was originally used as one in "The Love Bug". Other later Beetles in background. |

Evil, I got you covered- I listed that same episode on Page 87. I did not see David Soul (red Squareback) in it.
Puddle- it's quite catching. Having the TV on in the background while working from home made this much more interesting, as well as having the camera charged and on standby. I have several pages in my Gallery on TV show screen shots, and try to list them first in some of the dedicated Forum threads such as Type 3, Ghia, BayWindow Bus, etc. Before I import a photo, I spend a few minutes optimizing the image in Photoshop: straightening, un-distorting, cropping, lightening shadows, color intensification, brightness, etc. |

Walt Disney movie "That Darn Cat" (1965), linking up a VW Beetle with actor Dean Jones who will make history a few years later in "The Love Bug". In the movie's drive-in scene, Patti (Hayley Mills) drops her BF Dan's Siamese cat out from his Woody wagon and it scurries off. A drive-in attendant tries to catch the cat, which is running away on cars' roofs. A red Beetle is seen in background.
The attendant also runs over the roofs, inadvertently breaking his stride by jumping into the open sunroof of an oval-window Beetle.
The car bounces up with its 2 shocked occupants, showing the bullet front blinkers and the larger, old-style Wolfsburg hood crest. The first Beetle is seen in the upper right background.
Pale blue car in center-right background is a Borgward Isabella , and the small white sedan to the left rear is a Simca 1000. |

This toy split window bus riding on the train as it makes music. This is a spectacular model railroad set up in Germany called Minatur Wunderland. Worth the time googling and checking out.
This is the video of the music train. I guess this is what they did during lockdown.

house on telegraph hill 1951 - a Concentration camp survivor Victoria Kowelska finds herself involved in mystery, greed, and murder when she assumes the identity of a dead friend in order to gain passage to America.
when she joins other refugees leaving germany there is a segment of real footage including a couple of (unrra?) beetles. film's not bad either.

What I do before posting a photo, is to simply do a search with the movie title in the search box on this thread. If nothing comes up, I submit the response. If the movie has been listed, I click on the earliest appearance (bottom one of the search result list), quote that response (and the year) as a courtesy acknowledgement and fairness, then only add a photo if it is not a duplicate. Takes less than a minute's work. |

This Italian Charles Bronson movie has more aircooled VW's than you could possibly count. Unfortunately, the movie is so terrible it's hard to watch. _________________ Repeat after me "I am smarter than metal!" |

If only they actually cared about these old cars and owners as much they pretend to in their commercials. |

Charles Bronson movie "Love and Bullets", 1979. Bronson (playing Police Lieutenant Charlie Congers) starts off in Phoenix. He meets another policeman, and walk past a white '70 Beetle and a Topaz metallic '76 Beetle with Dan Gurney-style wheels in the parking lot.
A silver/grey Baja Beetle (oval window?) in another parking lot, with another Beetle in the background.
The FBI approach him to go to Switzerland and protect the girlfriend (played by Bronson's real-life wife Jill Ireland) of a US mob boss. They are in a red Peugeot 504 sedan, boarding the auto transport train that passes thru the Bernese Alps in the village of Kandersteg, Switzerland. An early '60's white Beetle is a few cars behind them on the train,
and a red '65 Beetle with white fenders and '68 taillamps farther back on the train.

In "All Good Things" set in the 1970s, Ryan Gosling drives a light blue 1970 VW sedan, even though his family is worth millions.

Some more Type 4:
"Cannon" TV show, season 2 episode 1 named "Bad Cats and Sudden Death" 1972. Main character private investigator Frank Cannon (William Conrad) pursues a Los Angeles area auto theft ring and is at the teams' body shop. Several VWs inside such as Squareback, Beetle and Bay window bus but I could not get a shot. Silver '71 or '72 411 Sedan outdoors, with VW accessory wheel trim rings. Red car at right is a '68+ Saab 96. IMDB does not show the location. BADCAT is the LAPD acronym for Burglary Auto Detail, Commercial Auto Thefts.
Movie "Brannigan" filmed mostly in London, England 1975. Chicago Police Lieutenant Jim Brannigan (John Wayne) is sent to the U.K. to escort organized crime boss Ben Larkin back to the U.S., but Larkin's hitmen prepare an ambush for Brannigan. His London-based police driver is Jennifer (Judy Geeson, familiar as one of the students in "To Sir with Love"). Many VWs are in the background, incl. green 411 Wagon at Heathrow Airport.
"The Bionic Woman" TV show. Silver 412 wagon with green Beetle parked in front of it, with Jaime Sommers (Lindsay Wagner) driving past in the old pickup. "Jaime's Shield" S2E10 1976. Non-shiny non-chrome bumpers indicate a '74.
Gold 412 Wagon. "CHiPs" TV show from 1977 thru 1983 featured 2 California Highway Patrol officers Frank "Ponch" Poncharello and Jon Baker (Erik Estrada, Larry Wilcox) riding their Kawasaki motorcycles in the Los Angeles area. "Repo Man" S2E14 1979. |
