Hello fellow members. Been having an on going problem with not having my engine rev past 6000 rpms.my set up is 2275 , Steve tims weekend warriors heads 44 × 37.5 .13/4 header fk89 ,ida 51.5.. jetting 65 idle.100 idle air...180 main.190 air f7 tube...3.0 needle/seat. Geers enlarged bowl ,set float level and did the 51.5 conversion. This problem existed before the conversion also.i went to a 170,175 ,and 180 main. 200 air to a 190..it sputters around 5900 rpms and stops pulling at 6000. I'm don't know what else to do.mabey try an fi2 tube ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

How is your fuel pressure and gas tank vent?
Have you looked at your ignition? |

What do you have for valve springs?
What kind of lift are you running?
Sounds like maybe valve float to me..

3.5 psi...ignition 32 total.18 initial new cap .rotor ,wires and plugs .035 gapped. Stock gas tank and cap running a return system with a -6 to the tank. Don't really know if the stock gas cap is internally vented. |

Not sure what kind of car or year you're running but the fuel tank on a 67' bug has a little push-on hose fitting sticking out of the filler neck, an inch or so under the cap. There is a vent hose connected that exits the trunk via a grommet. So it's not vented via the cap, but there is a length of hose which serves to vent the tank, atleast on the mid 60's Bugs. The tank needs a vent.
What type of fuel filter are you running? Is the micron size too small, or is it clogged?
What size fuel lines? Not sure if that makes a difference or not with an engine of that magnitude. _________________ 1967 Bug ( the daily rod )

Electronic ignition or points? Do you gave a rev-limiting rotor somehow?
If you do have a pertronix or something installed, that could be malfunctioning?
Some newer electronic ignition systems have rev limiting features built in which come pre-set from the manufacturer. You probably already know all this but just an idea. _________________ 1967 Bug ( the daily rod )

Have you made a pull and checked a plug? What size Venturi?
Could be ignition, but regardless I think you’ve got too much fuel. _________________ 4inBhore

That's a question too, do you have fuel starvation or too much fuel?
I'd tend to think you are running out of fuel
BUT, If you actually have too much maybe fuel try adjusting the pressure down to ~2.5. The jetting doesn't sound too rich but I honestly have no idea and don't know what carbs you are running either. _________________ 1967 Bug ( the daily rod )

He’s not running out of fuel unless float height is hosed. IDAs with enlarged bowls and big needles will support more power than the engine is capable of making.
You would be better off with a smaller vent, like a 42. It will improve airspeed and signal to the carb.
Go to a F2, 50/55 idle, 170main, 215/220 air. _________________ 4inBhore

Yes, vents between 48s and 51.5s are different. _________________ 4inBhore

Make sure when you press the gas pedal the carbs are opening up all the way. The pedal could be limiting the carbs. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Buy the Lm2 on Amazon for 260.00. That will tell you what it is as far as jetting.
X2 on the F2’s I have 170 mains with 200 airs in a 2783cc same cam or close to it. Bigger heads.
You need to make a pass in third somewhere safe and kill it at the top rpm , pull a plug and put another one in. Take a picture of the plug and post it here. _________________ 1961 Ragtop, Autocraft 2783cc for street/strip 10k miles and counting...230.84 HP to the wheels thru Muffler 13.4 to 1 on E85
