What year did Westfalia begin putting the WESTFALIA logo on pop tops? _________________ 1974 Westfalia Deluxe Campmobiles - Lake Stevens, WA |

early bays had logos of the prancing horse on the forward edge of the luggage rack on both sides
not sure if this carried over to the later style until they went with the big 'westfalia' text _________________

I say, if you like the logo, put it on!
I put it front and back on my '78. I know it isn't "correct." And don't care.
Which is kind of funny, because I went to great lengths to figure out whether the logo is proper with the bottom corner of the L squared or rounded. You can find the reproductions both ways.
I decided that the rounded L is how it was shaped on the decals that were originally applied to Vanagons.
You can also find them in a reflective material, which I chose and like for being-visible-at-night purposes. _________________ Dave Cook

I assume you are referring to this logo?
I've got a 74, which is right in the middle, so I'm wondering if it also had the prancing horse on the luggage rack?

And Westyman, I know you're right about using the logo if you like it. It's not like everthing in my Westy is totally original. I do like the WESTFALIA logo and will likely get one, but I was curious about the history. _________________ 1974 Westfalia Deluxe Campmobiles - Lake Stevens, WA |

that pawesty guy in the thread you linked is wrong...they all had decals out of the gate. just wanted to clear that up. the size/style/location on anything 71 and up....no idea as i have only done early bays. seems to me there was some small ones on the edge of the luggage rack the whole production run until they went with just the 1 big one. _________________

🤷♂️ This guy claims that this is an OG ‘71 and I don’t see any stickers on it.

I do like the fan housing stamp. Just looked at the one on my engine and it’s the same number and location. _________________ __________

Yeah, didn't read the whole thread, they all had a sticker of some sort.
That pic in the TCash quote is the 74-78 version and location on the luggage rack. (except some US delivered 76's, they had a special bicentennial version). _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Hello,
Rich open your eyes my friend. There are stickers on both sides of the luggage rack. You have to look close....but they are there. |

I see, I had to bring the pic up on my computer. Couldn’t see it in my phone. _________________ __________

I think it is interesting that that offical looking sticker above has the pointy L in the big sticker, but the curved L is clearly visible in the Westfalia logo on the backing! (It is also curved on the pictured horsey logos.)
Back when I was attempting to determine if the proper L was pointy or curved, I looked at a bunch of Vanagon gallery pic at original/older looking logos (vs logos that looked recently-applied) and they all had the curved L. So I guess the curved L is more like original, but at some point along the way it became a pointy L. _________________ Dave Cook

I took the plunge and ordered the luggage rack decals off Etsy. $4.25 for the pair.

This is a crisis!
I need these prancing stallion stickers on my 71 now!
Do they go on both sides of my luggage rack near the front?
I won't be able to sleep tonight... _________________ White 71 Campmobile known lovingly as "the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo." |
