But ... I was "super" happy with the results
This is an engine-in repair - may not look as good from underneath , but maybe in the future when I learn the engine removal process (remember , autostick...) , I'll be able to finish that side better _________________ Roger ... "Lost in the haze of alcohol-soft middle age" |

So , I'm really behind in posting my progress - last few pics and posts were from late November
In the first few days of December , one of my sons had close contact with someone who tested positive - my employer told me to stay home for 14 days even tho the rest of us in the house were negative ...
So two solid weeks of Bug work ...
Driver's side rear quarter panel
I used what was left of the outer part of the pillar as a reference point for the repair _________________ Roger ... "Lost in the haze of alcohol-soft middle age" |

Stripped , primed , painted , chopped to fit ... leaving the holes where fender nuts will be replaced
I was gifted a very handy air tool that I will call a "crimper" = it pinched a lip on the repair panel , then I reversed the tool and crimped an opposite lip around the repair site. I've said before I'm not an experienced welder and I definetly not a body guy , but what I thought I created was a joint that was slightly depressed compared to the actual body , which should mean a lot leass bondo to hide the repair ... _________________ Roger ... So as December wore on , the driver's side was completed up to the point before bondo , so I moved to the passenger side - it's going to be practically the exact same repair - I have experience ...

Like I mentioned , this is exactly the same repair as the driver's wasside
Once again using the manufactured hole as a reference point , bolt in place to keep the panel somewhat where I needed it while i pounded the snot out of it for the best fit - interesting this panel for the psgr side was slightly different than the driver's side , not sure if it was a good or bad thing , but still served the purpose
The outer "skin" repair panel from Cip1 "dot canada" , called the "right rear wheelhouse lower front section lower part" ... long description for such a small pricey piece of stamped metal
Then , after returning to work for 3 days in the middle of the month , son#2 has a positive covid test , so another 2 weeks of home quarentine for the whole family , back to the garage I go ... _________________ Roger ... "Lost in the haze of alcohol-soft middle age" |
