It'll be interesting if VW rubs this out with litigation or if it survives and evolves.
Which begs the question: could the New Beetle ever have been cool, if instead it was never the "New Beetle," but rather had been in continuous production, evolved, and retained it's rear engine design, as Porsche has? Maybe it could've evolved away from the Super look and back toward something earlier looking, like some modern one-off custom VWs have presented. |

hmmm, the name is the worst part - chosen in an internet 'consultation' - beetley mcbeetleface would be better!
interesting that they seem to be aiming it at the female market, vw found this limited sales of their new beetle too much and was said to be part of the reason for the tougher look redesign. to me, the new beetle's shape only worked in profile view. stretching the design over golf mechanicals meant it was too wide. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

Yes, China. I know VW has long-reaching legal tentacles, but they may have limited reach in China. If they are unable to quash production in Asia, I'd bet this thing will sell well over there. Here, not so much (and they'd probably not be able to sell here anyway, given potential copyright infringement). But I still think it looks more in line with how the Bug might have evolved, at least moreso than the plasticky, cake-mold NB that VW threw together. |

I'm sure vw group china would be big enough to kick this into the long grass... _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut
