I have a brand new set of HPMX carbs and need to set the floats. Im not to sure on how to do that. I know the basics of the external settings of the carb but need some advice and a walk-through if possible on how to set the floats on it. Any info is appreciated. Thanks. I am told to run them at 10.75-11. I am gonna be honest and say I have zero idea what that means.

Use same setup as Weber IDF, since HPMX is a exact copy of the Weber IDF all Weber information/instructions and parts and jets apply...

And yes carb tops are held in vertical position when adjusting floats....

Guys,

I realize that this is an old thread, but is the best that I could find (using SEARCH function) re EMPI 40 HPMX Float Levels.

I am about to install a new set of new Gen. 4's and am just checking if anyone has anything later or cares to offer any specific FACTUAL EXPERIENTIAL advice.

BTW: I have totally disassembled and cleaned them. To be honest, they were "spotless". All of the jets were per listed sizes. Very minor flashing on/in the venturis. No grit, shavings, or debris. However, The floats on both carbs were waaaay low. Rolling Eyes

Thanx for any and all help, and stay well!! Cool Cool

Tom

Guys,

I meticulously (and I do mean "meticulously") set the floats in my first EMPI 40 HPMX to 10mm and 32.5mm IAW the WEBER IDF instructions and the figure shown earlier in this thread.

When I allow the floats to "hang" upside-down such that the needle valve is fully closed by the weight of the floats, the distance between the carb gasket and the top of the float is only 0.84mm (0.33")!

Am I missing something here? IS this small clearance correct when the valve is fully closed?

I have searched the internet (again) and found all kinds of varying numbers for the "dangling floats", but can't find anything re what the measurements should be when the needle valve is fully closed.

I did find one video on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5jxFSGmCt8) where a guy was setting the floats with the valves fully closed on a pair of 44 IDF clones but wanted to check with the forum before proceeding down that path.

I am sure that a lot of guys on the forum are running the EMPI or other "No-Name" IDF clones (even though some won't admit it Smile ) and I would appreciate your advice.

Thanx in advance for your help!

Tom

on my no names, i didnt set to a specific measurement i set the float to fully closed with the top of the float is parallel with the top of the carb , im only running a 1600 and seem to have no problem with running out of fuel or over filling/flowing. max droop is set to weber standard above.

I appreciate the response!!

I realize that you didn't set to a specific measurement but do you recall approximately how much (1/16", 1/8", 1/4", etc.) clearance there was between the top of the "outermost" float and the top (gasket) of the carb?

In the YouTube video, the guy came up with 4.25mm which is ~ 3/16"

I just think that my 0.033" (I had to measure it with a feeler gauge) is too close.

Maybe or maybe not!

Thanx and stay well!! Cool
