Wow!
You've got Moxie!

First trip out and you're doing 65 on an Interstate?!?!?

It took me 100’s of miles on secondary roads before I ventured onto I-78! And even then I only went two exits over Jugtown Mountain.

You break down on an Interstate, there's no self rescue!

In these parts they tow you off and present you with a bill.

Thanks Dave!

Actually that was my first highway trip, however, I had put about 50 miles on it previously. We don’t live in town so I’ve made numerous trips 1 mile or less! Last week I got insurance and tags on this ‘84 Westy though I’ve been slowly working on it since last fall.
Still have a lot to do to be a fully functioning camper, but I have been quite surprised at the overall drivability of this vehicle. Comparing this to my ‘63 11 window it is leaps and bounds better.

No worries, lots of folks keep in the vein of calling transporters a Bus.. Plenty of folks point out the platform of the T3 is the same, generally, as the split and bays, and nobody ever had a hard time calling them a bus.. Even when it is in direct literature from VW that they are 'station wagons'.. Go figure. My splits and bays days are behind me, but I either use 'Vanagon' or Westy most often, then bus, then van.. Not sure it ever mattered. Call it what you like Smile

Installed a 12v outlet wired to my aux battery under the bench seat, and also replaced the unused ashtray with a Uniwerks Chinese diesel heater controller mount.

Yesterday I finally painted my Vans roof white.

The clear coat had deteriorated and the color coat had worn off in many areas to the primer.

$20 for a can of Rustoleum Farm Equipment paint .......small 3” short nap roller and a good brush.

One coat did 98% of the roof. Three hours total.....

I can't stop looking at it, it is so much better and I like the white roof! Not unlike newer vehicles with white roofs such as Ford Flex or Toyota FJ .....

Dave that looks great. I've been enjoying your build of the new van. I am wondering if your appreciation of tin tops is growing, or do you miss the Westy?

I am not a fan of the white roof on the Flex but I think it's dynamite on the FJ and on yours. If I get a companion Vanagon, I am going to keep it in mind. Very nice!

Can't find the original thread where someone linked to this Jensen deck with a built in, retractable wireless charging pad.

I took a chance on it and the wireless charging pad just barely fits in front of the shifter in 1st and 3rd when in the extended position.

The deck sound output isn't as loud as the Kenwood it replaced, but the wireless charging pad works great to hold a phone.

While my van is down again with this crappy rebuilt automatic, I went ahead and installed the moog 5668 springs and CLKs with BFGs. I also installed the LED rear marker lights from vanguy.net!

Hard to tell, is there any rake? Did you cycle the suspension?

I’ve thought about doing something similar but would hate to lose what little acceleration is there.

There’s about 1/2” difference from front to back. I have only put a few miles on it so far since the diff is howling. I’m not worried about losing acceleration, it’s got a Subaru 2.5 DOHC and soon to have a Subaru automatic transmission.

They look great and if you drive on sand, mud or soft snow, they will give you some flotation. What setup did you have before?

Stock alloys with general grabbers. While they have been awesome, I wanted bigger wheels to help with wind buffeting due to the hightop install.

Kept getting the oil buzzer and all was fine with other checks so got a new GW foil with LED bulbs, new sensor off eBay and put oil pressure and temp gauges. No more counting on the idiot buzzer and light....very happy!

Nice work on adding the volt meters, etc.

- Did you buy the carpet set and if so, from whom?

- As for running the wire, I just put it in a braided loom (split looms make it easier to change the wiring) and run it down the B-pillar. It becomes invisible and is easy to change-up as wiring needs change over the years.

I bought it specific for T3/T25/vanagon, very good kit from the mecatechnic website, dont know if they sell in the US

https://www.mecatechnic.com/es-ES/moqueta-nailon-n...B28152.htm

finally i installed this plastic tube and painted it in grey, i think its good enough
