Yes Im super pleased. Sad in a way to see her go.. Such a sweetheart of a car. She's going North of the border. The buyer says its been her dream car her whole life. I think it will make her very happy. She seems super nice.
As for the high bid.. Yeah I wasn't sure it would go that high since it was a little rough around the edges. BAT bidders seemed to me more drawn to bid big on cars that have really good looks vs correctness, originality rust free etc.. I really felt like people who really know Ghias would be more likely to bid on it.
And for Bring a Trailer.. Id do it again in a heart beat. 1. Its dirt cheap for what you get as a seller($99) 2. Aircooled cars in general seem to do very well on there. 3. I did not have to set a price and then deal with tire kickers, low ballers and people just worrying me to death. The listing went live and there was only one single person who contacted me directly and that turned out to be the winning bidder. Smooth as silk.. My suggestion for people thinking about selling on BAT is to be as honest as possible. I feel good that I laid it all out there and the bidders still saw value in it(as I did)
Now Im curious to watch the next one that pops up! |

I think you went out of your way to make sure buyers were fully informed. It's evident that your car is a good solid survivor and I would have jumped on it if I had the means to have another Ghia. It seems to me that the buyers on BAT are not the same people that we see on TheSamba. BAT buyers are willing to pay a premium in exchange for honest disclosure of condition as well as lots of comments by many who have experience. I think a buyer could have the car checked by a mechanic and not likely find out nearly as much as what comes out during a BAT auction. _________________ Marc

This 72 has not generated much enthusiasm.
It still has a couple of days to go and is just shy of $3,500
Not a terrible KG by any stretch. I just don't think it presents well.

I agree that it doesn't present well at all. I'm not crazy about it since the top doesn't go down! However, it's running and ready to drive, and the body appears to be decent for a 50 year old car. It would make a nice starter car for someone on a small budget. Even a decent investment for flipping depending on how high the bidding goes.
If it was being sold in the local ads, it might be a bargain, but on BAT, I suspect there will be the usual flurry of interest in the last few hours. I would not be surprised if it's not even half way there yet _________________ Marc

I agree that it appears to have solid bones. Underside of the rockers having the drain holes unclogged and not sealed over is quite a plus. '80's era Formuling France steering wheel. Correct outer mirror. There's probably inevitable rot under the battery, but that could be easily patched. Are the light/white spots on the floors peeled off undercoating to reveal a shiny black floor that's being reflected from the background lighting? Mismatched wheels are easy to correct. Low oil pressure light on, seen at the very end of the driving video? But WHY can't people turn on their camera flash when photo'ing into the dark trunk to illuminate the area? |

A day spent with a buffing wheel and an over all clean up would make a huge difference in the presentation. Doesn't look too loved as is. _________________ RIP HBB (1984-2009)

I’m surprised the red Low Light didn’t do better... seemed like a great car, just needed floor pans and a headliner... I guess that’s the deal with BAT, appeals more to the buyer who wants it all fixed up and ready to go. |

Depends on what someone wants to do with it?? Personally, I wouldn't touch it. It's certainly worth restoring. For some one who can do all the cutting and welding, this looks like a worth while project. Or a great driver as is. But that's not me. I feel strongly that there is a lot more rust on that car than is visible. Plus the top won't go down, that's a deal breaker for me. _________________ Marc

That’s a good price for that car. It’s a tear down with visible rust which means much more is hiding under paint and bondo. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Sold for $7001. |
I'm guessing the person who bid $7,000 is kicking themselves (or maybe sighing in relief)
There is probably not going to be much downside. It does need a deep cleaning. Really deep! _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

It does look quite nice. Nice enough that I would have invested in a much better quality carpet set. |
It’s a total TMI interior down to the cheap loop kit. But I agree why go that far with it and skimp on the carpet kit? _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

$15k out of the gate.
A drop dead gorgeous DKP Ghia!
I smell a new high sale if it makes the reserve which has to be at least $50k _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”
