Yup, your right. My bad. Btw, is that a silver b5 passat in that picture you posted? It seems most the b5 Passat I come across tend to be silver for some reason. _________________ -'85 c10 5.3 LS, 222 cam, long tubes, x pipe, 3 inch spin tech's

TDI, gasser, all the same. Not really any tighter than a Golf or Jetta, & you can’t remove the frame rail in the way on those. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Let’s see. I know I am a young mechanic but I’ve seen my fair share of screwups in engines. We had one customer who replaced his spark plugs and had slathered anti seize all over the threads and electrodes and had the car towed in saying I don’t know why my engine isn’t running right. I had to clean them up and properly apply anti seize. Later that same guy had the same car towed in with another father and son handy fix again with anti seize this time they replaced the PCM and slathered the anti seize all over the connections and it was acting weird cleaned them off and all good again. I told him not to use anti seize anymore on anything without my help lol. Most of the other stuff is dumb stuff I’ve seen while working in the shop like a guy burning the shop down because he was welding near gasoline and the others is a customer driving in the pit and many other things. |

Nah, the balance shaft exist for a reason. But I am considering converting to gear driven instead of chain.
This car is already a money pit and it was never even supposed to be lol.
If the chain breaks I can always swap the engine for a v10 TDI _________________ -'85 c10 5.3 LS, 222 cam, long tubes, x pipe, 3 inch spin tech's

well i was nearly ready to fire up the passat and break in the cam. i just need to tighten the timing belt and hook the accessories back up. I should have it running again 2marrow.
new cam, lifters(the black oxide style), cam bearings, water pump, tensioners, belt, etc.
im posting on this b/c i did something really stupid 2day... I tried using the cam pulley puller backwards and stripped a thread good news is, only the very first thread got goofed up. So all is good now.
i dont know why the video i was watching had me do this. but i did it any way. The factory timing marks were still on there thankfully so the timing is exactly how it was be 4.
Well damn! that boy messed up.
and it being a deisle, your gonna get FILTHY.
I was hungry and didnt want to digest oil, so a banana worked out well.
nearly back together. _________________ -'85 c10 5.3 LS, 222 cam, long tubes, x pipe, 3 inch spin tech's

Did you mag out all the valleys in the head to get as much of the particulate out as possible?
Did you check that the galley plugs were still intact in the injector rockers? _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Yes and no. Hopefully all is well with the second part.
Good news is, it's running, and I timed it right.
It has TONS for power. Although I cant drive it very fast due to the radiator hanging down. And the smoke is nearly gone. I will run I deisle purge and see what happens.
Right now it's got a chirping noise. I double checked all tensoiners. The noise was present before i replaced anything.
I'm thinking it's a bad altenator bearing and sperentene tensioner.
I read over on tdiclub that the outside of the timing belt can rub and make the same sound, so I will see if the candle trick works.
Oh, and I can hear my turbo now

Next on the list now that the cam burn in is complete, is an oil change and filter which will be here tomarrow. _________________ -'85 c10 5.3 LS, 222 cam, long tubes, x pipe, 3 inch spin tech's

guy sold me an engine for an aircooled, dual relief, dual Dellorto 40's, guy said it ran, but it vibrated like hell at idle. I did a valve adjust, oil change, put it on my run stand, and fired it up, thinking the guy didn't know how to synch the carbs...engine at idle almost shook the run stand on it's side.. this ain't no carb synch issue.. pull the head on the 3-4 side...okay, 92's, and 82mm stroke, great!! it's a 2180..pull the other side...no friggin way, says right on the pistons 90.45... yeah it might be a tiny bit out of balance.. _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

Engines and the cars that they power are engineered and built for ease of factory assembly. Very little consideration is given when it comes to service ancillary parts like water pumps, starters, spark plugs and the like.
It seem like lately every time I tackle a job on a "modern" car or truck the first step in the procedure is to remove motor mounts, raise transmissions for clearance or remove frame members to gain access to what should be simple repairs. Dumb and frustrating! _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

it's actually a two cylinder
I'm sure you already know dis butt those are the injectors you see on the top.
Which is y they call them "pumper dusen" or however you spell it.
Edit, I found the noise. It's just the serpentine belt dampener. If it explodes oh well. It wont be the end of the world.

Oh btw, at the last vw meet I was at, I saw this....
Link
The video speaks for itself lol
And this was after we got it running. Engine had a top end "rebuild".
The china carb came with bolts not studs. And the rear bolt was bottoming about and pushing the carb up. _________________ -'85 c10 5.3 LS, 222 cam, long tubes, x pipe, 3 inch spin tech's
