Hello all,

I am trying to install an aftermarket radio but my old one seems stuck on one of the corners (bottom, right). Any suggestions on getting this thing out? I'm not as interested in keeping the old intact since it's not working correctly anyway. Many thanks in advance!

Normally you’d have 2 tools and pull the head out squarely. Look at the side you have out to get an idea how the tool works and how the head clips in.

Hi Mark, so by squarely do you mean parallel to the dashboard? I did try that and I think I understand the brackets that the tools slide into. It seems one of the brackets may be sticking outward which is why the stereo won't slide out. Please let me know if I understood you correctly.

Two hacksaw blades can be used in lieu of the tools. The interwebz has the videoz. Worked for me.

. ^^^^^. Sometimes the sleeve/frame distorts and even with the correct release tools, you are stuck on the sides as a ‘finger’ jams radio against the frame.

I worked at the dealer when these radios came out. It was the first attempt at a theft deterrent. You would not believe how destroyed interiors were and the radio chassis was still there. We had on convertible that looked like a crime scene. Dash and console destroyed, broken glass, blood everywhere and yet the radio chassis was still there. The joke was we should hang the removal tools from the mirror.

Since the radio does not work and you have no nostalgic live for it there is one slughty destructive thing you can try without damaging the dashboard.
Take the faceplate off and use a good stout needle nose pliers and possibly a small 6" crescenet wrench
Use the pliers to see if you can curl the offending side inwards toward the center and away from the locking tabs.
Ya gotta be careful cause you can distort the top and bottom into the dash, but I think you'll get the hang of it.
You could probably bend twist crack the entire inside until it's empty of parts....😁
