0544 - "0" indicates factory. 0 is Wolfsburg I believe. 9 is the Karmann factory.
544 - number within production lot.

It is always good to see when standard cars are being worked on, because these are also worth keeping.
But please don't forget the white reverse lights, these were standard on L-models.
