The steering shaft mount on the sand rail I am trying to update is 7/8 but the new rack and pinion is 5/8 36 spline. A 5/8 36 spline to 7/8 smooth u-joint doesn't seem to be all that common (I think I've found just one) so is that the correct way to go here?
I need about 38" of steering shaft and was just going to do two u-joints, one at the rack and pinion and one near the steering shaft mount, using a new 7/8 shaft with the 3 bolt flange for the steering wheel.
Should I be concerned with the 5/8 to 7/8 u-joint connection?
Thanks,

Maybe this is the one your're referring to, but pacific customs sells 5/8-36 to 7/8 smooth, link below. I can't imagine why'd there'd be any issue but I'll let others chime in on that. I THINK most rack&pinion setups are 5/8 or 3/4 going 3/4 or 7/8 shaft.

Yep, that's only one I've been able to find vs. the plethora of 3/4 to 7/8 or 5/8 to 3/4 u-joints out there. I wouldn't be concerned if the shaft on the R&P was 3/4. |
