Cool, maybe a mis-stamp?
I swear I see the hint of a month stamping there

Possibly, but all four are like that.

I'm having problems with the beauty rims on my 15" wheels, in that they seem to keep coming loose, and rattling. I'm very concerned about losing them too.

I've bent out all the 'tabs' to make them as big as possible, but this doesn't seem to have done the trick. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to make them fit snuggly? I've thought about some kind of fabric tape taped round the inside of the rim, but I'm not sure if that would work.

Weird, are they stock Lemmerz rings and stock 15s?

My 15s are really tight and I remember only bending out 2-3 of the tangs when they were off because they were obviously bent in a little bit.

If it's worth getting any measurements to see if the rings are worn or bent weird let me know. I have a couple spare 15" rings sitting around that I could measure the inner diameter, etc.

I agree with Everett; usually they are so tight they seem to be a one-way-barb and rip off paint when removed. You could wire them to the wheel slots with stainless or monel wire.

So here's the front left wheel, (minus hubcap) with a beauty ring fitted:

With the trim removed, you can see the telltales in the dirt on the inner wheel rim where the 'tangs' are moving back and forth, making the whole thing rattle:

The wheels are stock 15" rims, and the beauty rings are 9810 Lemmerz with a 1963 date code (no month stamp though, as I mentioned previously):

Tangs are all pushed out pretty much as far as they will go:

And the diameter from tang to tang is 37.3cm (14 5/8")

Is this ring installed all the way?
There should be no gap between the ring and the wheel
This space, my rings have basically zero space there:

I measured a couple of my loose rings from tang to tang, they are the same measurement. Some are only 14.5" so those may be bent in a little.

Thanks Everett - that's the problem! I push it all the way home so that there are no gaps anywhere, drive it over a few speedbumps, and 'ping', it pops out again. It just won't stay in place. Push it fully in on one side, and if you're not careful, it pings out the other side. There just doesn't seem to be anything for the tangs to grip to. Perhaps the wheels have been shot blasted in the past, and the inner rim is fractionally larger than it should be? I'll give fabric tape a go to see if that'll do the job.

So I remembered that I actually had some cloth bike handlebar tape in the garage. It's cotton, has an adhesive that's water proof, but not permanent. Should do the job....

(Yes, it's red, but you can't see it once the beauty ring is fitted.)

I've used two layers, as one didn't seem to be enough, and the ring appears to be a snug fit. Only time will tell as to whether it works. If it does, then I'll do the other wheels.

Weird, especially if it's all 4 wheels but I'm interested to know if that fixes it.

I wonder if it's been sanded or blasted larger too but I feel like it would have to be quite a bit... maybe not though.

Lay on some heavy paint. Smile

Yes, I don't understand the purpose of your post unless you are listing the date codes for reference?

If you have no use for them, please place an ad in the classifieds.

No big deal, the date codes are good for reference.

I thought I had an overall listing of the date codes people had posted in this thread but I guess I never created one.
