Sunk up to its ass for 30 years in med-west humidity and rot. Gaping holes in the frame at very sensitive areas, yet you " ignore the rust and drive as is "!

Absolutely appalling. Just because the Op threw in Bug motor with a Chinese distributor and got it to stop does not make for a road worthy vehicle. Its a lot driver at best.

no need to get upset about it.. its just a bus.

and check your math, it sat for 45 years in the Indiana dirt, not 30.

and thats fake news on the distributor, its a Brazilian 049 , Chinese chrome don't shine that bright...

Who cares if the gates or other parts fall off as you drive it because for $11,500....

"has that low mileage firmness and smell about it that you just cant recreate"

I actually drove in this truck. It drives super nice. The mechanicals are well sorted.

If he wants $100,000 for this conversion what would
he be asking if it was an original 23 window?

For $100K I'd like a oil bath air cleaner, not cheezy chrome crap.

More?

Nice looking Bus in the pics but...

It bugs me that it has a later headliner and later (heat-seamed) upholstery in a '63.

The middle seat looks like a 64-67 style seat

I don't doubt this is a German bus, but it has 13 windows? Yet it's a type 23?

Not a '66 VIN # in the VIN plate photo either

VIN plate shows VIN 1 318 182 a June 1963 kombi.
...which would be a small hatch bus without the heat vents under the dash.

Apart from the 4th window, it looks like a kombi... no heater log, no armrest brackets, etc.
has cab door props
has pre-67 radio hole
heat from grills, not from center tube

so a 63 kombi VIN plate on a 4/64- 66 kombi ?

no blinker light on dash to left of pod, so maybe a 66 kombi?

I was thinking the same on all counts. Even though a vinyl headliner was an option in 63, IIRC.
Not big on the chrome airvent cover

However, how nice a truck do you expect for $11.5K, if it has a rebuildt motor, rebuldt trans, a tidy front seat, good tires, and all new brakes?
If people want ~$5k for a junky project, I'm not sure this deserves a whine mention.
Good that it has all new hard lines.

here are 34 buses priced up to 10,000:
looks like they are all junky project buses.
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php...ton=Search

from 10000 to 15000 here are 19 ads, including some somewhat less junky buses: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php...ton=Search

Gone are the $1000 decent project buses, along with Kurt Cobain, Richard Nixon, and Jerry Garcia.

I think it is a June 1964. Mine is 1241xxx 30th January 1964.

This.^^
People are still locked into this idea that mechanical costs on a VW are not a factor in value, but long gone are the days of $500 engine and transmission rebuilds. My last mechanical restoration with me doing the labor cost me $6k and that was using used case and core gear box.

"just testing the waters" means comparing similar beater buckets, pricing accordingly, and seeing if anybody is actually getting such money for such piles.

I can't stand when people 'test the waters' or put up 'feeler ads'. What does that even mean? You either want to sell it or you don't. Am I supposed to show interest, ask a bunch of questions, then you don't want to sell it to me? Or do you want people to prove to you whether it's priced correctly or not, without committing to sell? If you want opinions on pricing, put up a post and ask what people honestly think. Or do your own homework and see what else is out there for a comparison. Don't solicit offers for a vehicle that may or may not be for sale.
It just seems like a way to waste the time of everyone involved.

^^^^^ or "offer"-with no price ^^^^^^. Don't make me guess what you want to make on your sale. That's your job. These sellers act like they are putting their virginity on the market. Samba rules state that prices should be attached to the sale item.

Those wishy-washy sellers irritate me as well. If someone puts something up for sale, they should be serious with a price, and all the other things that help complete the sale, like a title, etc.

The only good thing about those ads is that they identify the seller as being non-serious and/or someone who just wants to play games, which tells me to stay away. If they are that bad in their ad, then they are probably worse in person.

If you are asking someone to spend tens of thousands of dollars with you, take a minute to think about things from the buyers perspective. Your stuff has to be extraordinarily special for a buyer to wade through a sea of bullshit to buy it. And to many buyers, they simply won't play those games.

I just offer $500 bucks. If they don't like it they should counter offer.

And yes, more than one has gotten pissy at me with the occasional indignant "You don't know what it is worth!" Apparently neither do you because you can't come up with how much you want.

I've done that, with much the same result. Although occasionally I'll "poke the bear" and tell them I know exactly what it's worth, but I was hoping they didn't.
