you can use this chart to see what month you car was made - read the blurb at the top of the table and note the number listed is for the last one of the month

or a birth certificate from vw will have the precise date (usually)

Just stumbled on this old thread and thought I'd add mine into the mystery.
My chassis number is Oct 57 1680973 but the body is a few months earlier - 4316. From the info on here, it looks like the body was pressed in June.
This makes sense. Being an Australian CKD, the chassis' and bodies would have arrived separately and old mate in Melbourne wouldn't have been aligning numbers before bolting them together.
One final twist - the body number has a 'C' before the number. I assume its a designation for CKD - does anyone know?.
My 69 singlecab has CKD stamped in the engine bay. |
