Not quite Class 11, but it has done plenty of off-roading.

The rear swingaxle suspension needs the droop travel limited to keep the car rubber side down. I raced and won with swingaxle many years ago. _________________ Richard

Extremely cool. How much suspension travel do you get with the A-arm suspension? Do you have issues with the tires hitting the fenders? _________________ 36hp '56 European DeLuxe oval, '70 bug 1835cc dual 36DRLA, and a '98 4x4 5spd single cab Tacoma |

It has around 9 inch of suspension travel.
Talking about the tires hitting the fenders. I don't have this problem. They only hit the inside when turning the wheels when they had the original wheels (4.5"x 15"). With 6"x15" wheels, the problem solved. |

At the risk of sounding really ignorant.....
Is a Class 11 "just" a lifted Type 1 Beetle with big tires, lifted suspension, bigger motor, etc?
I'm currently working on a baja project. Trying to get the motor running with limited time. |

After a 5 week thrash to make our 1st race, the M.O.R.E. Slash X Dual in the desert, we made the start. There were 24 entries, 23 took the start for a rough 29 mile loop. The Class 11's had to complete 3 laps in roughly 4 hrs. Only 11 of the 23 completed all 3 laps. We were happy to even get to the start line. We wanted to gather as many points as possible for the EMPI Triple Crown series. We had a few problems but the team worked through them and we completed all 3 laps with an overall finish of 9th. We still have more work to do on the car, we learned a lot on this outing.
Yes, the rule book says you can run a sunroof car, Yes it passed through Tech inspection, and Yes we will cover that opening before the next race. |

Class 11 is racing class that is for full bodied bugs, not sure if ghias are included, Some modifications are allowed. Often here on the samba a full fender bug is called a class 11 style but most probably have modifications that are not allowed in that class.
This is mine but I don’t think it would meet the Class 11 requirements

Tech Inspection?!?!?!? Not at all like I used to do. Our cars weren't even checked. Never opened any of the doors or looked inside cockpit of buggies. Roll cages not checked. Wheels not shaken to ensure all hardware secure. double throttle return springs not checked. Seat belts not checked. I really don't know how they think they can call it "Tech Inspection". Nobody has ever taught any of them how it SHOULD be done.
That aside...Congrats on a fine 1st race with the car.
Our team had cars in 1, 10, 1600 Buggy, 5/16 (4 of them- ran 1,2,3 and 5th for most of the race, then 3rd blew an engine and 5th got 3 flats in a lap and dropped to 7th, my son was in the 2nd pl car), 9 and 11. Wind was obnoxious, otherwise weather was fine. _________________ Richard
