There are some wonky things going on with your bus. Definitely a mix of '66 and '67 features.

that looks like 67 to me. everything about your bus screams 1967 except for the vin and gas door. can you verify the stamped vin in the engine compartment is the same as the vin tag and m-code plate in the cab (m-code tag is behind pass seat). can you take a picture of the hole for the hatch button and the gas door when you get a chance.

peecee69... I agree now that this is all coming up on this thread.. I wonder (as I suppose it is not rare), that during ownership of however many PO's, parts are hard to find; parts are hard to fix; new parts are ordered to replace, etc. etc. and thus the mix.

I do not have the tag on the seat. It is actually affixed on the pass side of the air intake next to ceiling (see pic below). I did look in engine compartment before but could not find it.

I have a pic below of the back side of the latch.

the m-code tag should be located on the wall behind the passenger backrest.

the vin in the engine compartment is a stamping on the passenger side where the apron meets the engine shelf in front of the battery.

thats a 67 hatch. the 66 push buttom will not work with that hatch.

widehatch... yes, the M plate "was" there on the pass seat, as left by an imprint... the rivet holes are still there... and they replaced the apron with a new one.

Crap, I'll need to call WW to get another latch.

The VIN isn't on the apron, but right next to it. The purpose of it is to have a VIN stamped into a difficult to change body part.

Shouldn't be under the apron. In this pic the rusted area is what the apron covers. The vin should be right above the edge of the apron.

That is your actual VIN. Time to send off for a birth certificate to figure out what it used to be.

Then ignore most of it, repair what needs repairing, drive it, and enjoy it.

Might want to run the VIN through NICB's VINCheck to see if it is hot. Would suck to put a ton of cash into it if it is on the hot sheet.

Checked out as not stolen.

I'm thinking more that it used parts of a 66 and 67.

as in 'someone put a air vent tag from a 66 on a 67'.
