Trying to decide on how I am going to have my Thing ride and think I’ve decided on a moderate drop that’s less damaging to my ears and spine.
Currently it’s is slammed and running 165/45/15 with dropped spindles and dropped/narrowed beam and it is hitting the frame head on the road very often.
I am thinking of putting a standard width beam back on with standard bug/ghia spindles and welding adjusters in to fine tune height.
I would like 185/65/15 tyres or close to that size. Enough of a drop to close arch gaps up but no more frame head hitting the road, decent sidewall height, keeping steering fairly light and easy etc etc
Does anyone have a similar set up? Pictures and opinions please 🤙 _________________ https://www.facebook.com/Cow-County-Looms-1010851485971680/ |

Have you tried adjusting the beam up?
Most “narrowed/lowered/adjustable” beam manufacturers assume that you want to bury the bumper & as such, all of the adjustment is down.
While 2.5” drop spindles, on a Beetle beam, is easily a 5” drop on a Thing, 2.5” drop spindles on a Beetle is not that drastic & should still leave you with at least 3.5” of clearance under the beam.... not including the reduction in sidewall height.
Before buying even more stuff, try adjusting your beam to it’s highest & if it’s not enough, or the trailing arms aren’t more than parallel to the ground, I’d suggest a “cut-n-turn” on your existing beam. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I’m working on a 73 right now. I went with a CB Performance 2” narrowed beam with stock Bug spindles, AC Industries disc brakes, BRM’s and 175/65’s. This is max height, and I’m very happy so far.
