Yikes! The first two renters were treated badly but they do seem to be the kind of people who shouldn't be renting old campers in the first place. Yelling at your customer is just stupid.
As my father-in-law used to say, "You're going to make mistakes; its all about how you deal with them." _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

I wouldn't be so sure COVID is to blame. Terrible reviews dating back several years. I'm not here to trash the guy or the company. I saw the post about the auction and was interested. Emailed and got a link to the auction site and started looking at the vans. They don't look terrible, but not great shape, either, so I thought I'd read some reviews about the company to get a feel for how well they maintain their vans. This is what I found.

i know nothing of the business or the company but i just think its funny how all the negative posts make no mention of the fact that the last year for the vanagon westfalia was 1991. i for one would never rent a 35 year old vehicle and NOT expect it to have some problems....... |

Yeah, like with anything there are some eye-roll worthy reviews...surprised to get an "old" van and clearly have no clue about the Vanagon. But if your business is renting vehicles they should be road-worthy, old or not, and any problem areas should be disclosed. I've rented a Vanagon and a Eurovan from reputable outfits, and while I knew what I was renting and would be understanding and maybe not super surprised if I ran into some trouble, I certainly wouldn't expect it, and I would expect it to be dealt with in a professional manner. Both places I've rented from had clear procedures in place for what to do if a mechanical issue occurred.
But like I said before, I'm not here to bash, but I think the reviews could provide some insight on how these vans might have (or not) been maintained, so buyer/bidder proceed with caution. |

when you are renting vintage VWs to 'the general public' they either have to be in tip top shape or disposable. _________________

$12k for an engine swapped Syncro. Little bit of rust repair, really not too hard. Flat places are easy to do. And then put the interior back in and who hasn't done that? _________________ '87 Syncro

I hope you'd remove the engine conversion and all the rest of the good parts first.
This is my van. It sure is ugly on the outside, but hey, I'm a hillbilly haha. It's a great running van that has been a pleasure to own. _________________

Nah, it's been a northeast ohio van it's entire life. I've lowered the price to $5000. If it doesn't sell, I'm going to give it to my mechanic for free. See if maybe he'll sell it on consignment or use the drive train as a donor and give me a piece of the purchase price. My pride won't let me accept these $1000-2000 lowball offers and at least with my mechanic it will be in good hands. _________________

There was one with a very similar paint job that lived in North Delta for awhile, then moved to east Van. Pretty sure it was a Westy, though. Haven't seen it for awhile. _________________ 1988 Tintop Wolfsburg Special Edition - "Meatloaf"

That must be it - I’ve lived in East Van a long time and some of those vanagons are hard to miss.
