Would You do it. I got a pair and thinking about installing them on my 62. I found the trailer wiring thread. |

I wouldn't. They might look good but the trailer wiring is a pain in the ass and the snowflakes are harder to see |

There was a time when I would have done it without any hesitation. But the older I get, the more I appreciate things being correct. |

The trailer wiring is actually very easy. I put them on my 62 and the trailer converter doohickey has worked perfectly for around 7 years now. I also added a third brake light in my back window to offset the fact that the snowflakes are smaller.
That being said, I also agree with dirty hippie in that I really wanted it that way years ago, but nowadays, I sometimes think about putting the originals back on.
Let me know if you decide to go through with it, and you can check out the wiring on my car if you have any questions. _________________ Eric - 1966 camper bus

I did it and added LED's at the same time. The LED's are made for the 61 lights but wired for 62 car so no changes to wiring, no trailer wiring and can see them from space. Also added 3rd LED brake light. |

Do whatever makes you want to enjoy your car more. I have trouble putting much weight on the opinions of strangers who don't have my interests or wallet in mind. Besides, didn't VW build over 20 million of these things? _________________

I'd be of the opinion that if they don't look out of place then go ahead and fit the parts you prefer. There's nothing much to differentiate between a 61 and 62 so in this case they won't look out of place like they would on say a 67 bug. I'm following this example with my late 61 bus, its getting bullets and round tail lights cos they'll look right at home and I prefer how they look. |

I installed a set of Chip's LEDs (classified link) and they are nice . Easy to install and bright. Great for any snowflake lights. _________________ 1960 Indiana Red T1 |

If you want it do it. Think before you do anything, then think about it again. Are you going to have to do matching spot repainting? Are you ready for weak taillights? It may hurt future value, is this a stepping stone to your future VW goals? I'm not saying don't, just want you to think about what and why.
Once upon a time I had a '63 Bug with shaved front turn signals and big amber bulbs in the parking light holes instead. I had snowflakes out back too. Chrome T-bars replaced the bumpers. There was a deck lid standoff kit and a lowered front end. Underneath it was a stock 40 horse Bug but it had the look! I remember the car fondly. I wouldn't recommend it now. I wouldn't do it now, 25 year later. _________________
