I know it's not the 100% stock you're after, but for a car that's driven often I love that I have instant brake lights as soon as I touch the pedal and none of the pressure-activated lag that comes with the booster switch.

Thanks Pete! But you are right, stock over safety every time.

Pulled the main wire harness through today. What a treat.

The shifter boot is on the loose side (and I don’t think cutting it down would help). The wire is tight, just the fit on the tube is suspect. Thinking about some permatex as a remedy.

So this is progress?

I've been watching with interest the electrical work your doing.
Although I rewired my Ghia several years ago I still have some non functional items that I've always wanted to address. After seeing you use the DC power supply I decided to go ahead and get one for myself and finally address those issues. Thanks for the ongoing inspiration Cool

Thanks King! That trunk load of loose ends is daunting— I needed some encouragement just about now.
Good luck with your gremlins.

You should be happy your harness is so minimal compared to late models....I had so many ends to connect it was daunting. I pre labeled every wire end and still faced problems, confusion, while looking at the wire instruction sheet and the wiring schematic. It was like learning another language, like Shakespearian English, took a while to decipher, then when it finally popped into my head, became a 'bit' more understandable! While it looks daunting, continue to address it as you have done all along, from a technical perspective, but with somewhat of a child like curiosity!! At least that worked for me!
Don't give up!!

Im really enjoying this thread Trylon, I can feel your enthusiasm from here!
It might help a little to see how my rewiring efforts went, although our Ghia is newer, I still had the original loom in place and I had an old loom from a Samba member to take correctly coloured wires from.
Patience, core strength and the wiring diagram are your best friends!
Good Luck!

Anyway...

When it rains it pours... but in this case in a good way.
After seeing the jeopardy that our sun visors were in, Kev (The Aussie Trimmer) sent two pivot castings suitable for chroming for our car! As if he hasn’t done enough to make our dreams come true— thanks Kev!
And Loren found sun visor hardware that had gone missing:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

As this set was already chromed and complete, I have purchased it.
Thanks for all your support Loren!

Got sidetracked today. Noticed that the passenger side vent conduit got moved to the wrong side of the struts. You can just see the red and taped thing in this pic:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Had to remove the vent control to reposition it and saw what a mess it was in so did some clean up on it:

Will show result tomorrow.

‘Course this reminded me about the ducts so I gave one a go:

No go.
Just managed to tear one of the rubber pieces. Will try again another day.

I think this might be considered 1 step back.

Plenty of posts about what a pain these are. I eventually need to put mine in also so I'm hoping you can come up with a good trick to make it easy?

If you put baby powder on the seals, they might be easier to work with?

Try boiling them and they may become more stretchy...that's a technical term. Slip them on and when they cool, they fit well....We are talking about those little rubber rings yes?

At first I thought you were going to make a joke about boiled baby seal.

Will try your actual advice— thanks!

They're yummy if you haven't tried! If ever in Denmark, and you know the right people........Now if you had some seal oil, that could work too!

Tired of trying to determine what size bolt to use, so got this:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Gonna wear it to my next mosh pit experience.

Would you believe that none of them fit the wiper strut nuts?!
M4 too small; M5 too big. Goldilocks wants to know where just right is!

‘Course it’s probably the thread (both of the testers are 1.0).

So had a thought and tried to gently screw in a M5 0.8 tap:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It did seem to work so I am going to try that size.
We will see...

Moving along in the vent arena. I remembered we have new paddles to install so I pulled everything apart:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And reassembled after cleaning:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Waiting for paint to dry on the casing and will reinstall.

When I pulled the vent paddles out, I accidentally unscrewed the ignition switch:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Would you look at that? Screw terminals! Must have decided it would have been a pain to replace the key so they simply attached spades.
And why couldn’t they do that all round?

Anyway, nice that we have the correct switch:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And since the last vestige of working wire is now removed, I pulled the incorrectly installed harness out of the way:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I think it actually does look like progress is being made now:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Wish I had thought to ask Dwayne to remove that unsightly grounding tree.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I don’t think I have the right tool to deal with it? Hack saw good enough? Or do I have to get something more dangerous?

You want to keep your car all original, why would you hack that grounding tree off? Is it not original? Those grounding points are practically the foundation of your wiring, since as you know, everything must be grounded properly to function. Where are you going to place or replace it? I wouldn't take away such an important part of your system.
