I bought a new speedometer to replace my old crappy one (that worked just fine but the inside of it was a mess) and found a guy who fixes them up and makes them like new. After I received the first one and put it in the speedo was reading at least 10mph under what it should have been. Guy said he sets it up for bigger tires, fast forward to now he sends me another one and says it should be right and tested and still not right. Hearing a screaming noise from the speedo itself not the cable, what else can this be, thanks for any help! _________________ Two wrongs don’t make a right, but three rights make a left!

The screaming could be your cable. It might be hard to tell exactly where the sound is coming from. In either case, the screaming is from lack of lubrication.
The accuracy will indeed depend on the diameter of your front left tire. I suppose if the vendor is able to re-gear the speedometer based on tire size, then you need to let them know the exact tire you are running. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle |

I've personally never heard, inside the car, screaming sounds from the speedometer that were from a bad cable. Every time it was the input shaft bushings of the speedometer.
Speedometer calibration is not "gearing", it is a matter of correct pretension on the return spring of the needle. (the odometer, on the other hand, IS a directly geared counter of wheel revolutions) Sounds to me like whomever you are dealing with doesn't really know what he's doing.
(it's not like I don't know a little about this myself...

I do not know how to fix this. All I can say is it all works fine for me with what I use, Firefox. |
