I'm looking for a good source to replace my 73 bus windshield. The local glass company can't seem to find it in their supplier list. I hate to spend $400 in shipping costs from the places I've found it. I'm in the Kansas City area. Where have you had success finding one? _________________ 1973 Hightop Bay Window |

Concur with Pioneer. My local glass shop sourced it for less than $150. New German seal, and it went in without issue. Folks warn not to get the shaded top, as the transition interferes with your line of sight. |

I used them last year as well. Under $200, had to drive about 45 minutes to pick it up. Totally worth it. _________________ 1979 Transporter (sold)

Parts for your van will often be listed as T2 or Transporter parts. Outside of the VW cult, nothing much is listed as fitting a Bus. |

What? Cult? I’ve had ACVWs for 40 years now, nobody even showed me the secret handshake. |

There are several threads on windshield sources, and you should probably consult those. I have always used my "local" (in the big city nearby -- Santa Fe) Speedy Glass guy. They get the FW 201 windshields for about $100.
I used to do the installations myself, but last time I had 3 buses to do, and the guy did all three, with no help, in one morning -- all went in without a fight. One of the three even had deluxe trim, which the guy was happy to install. I used the good seals. _________________ John

I have never paid for a vw bus windshield, or any vehicle windshield for that matter....and I’ve had 10-15+ Installed. Put full coverage insurance on the bus (including windshield coverage), wait a few weeks till you get a new crack in your glass and make a claim. Simple. Zero dollars. Helps when you have a bomb ass insurance agent. |

So are you saying that you paid for it by paying higher insurance rates or by committing insurance fraud and having the rest of us pay higher rates to cover your shenanigans? Somebody had to pay for it. |

If the windshield cracks, and insurance covers cracks, how is that fraud?
I have glass coverage as well, but I’m happy to pay the $100-200 for a PGW Solex glass and do it myself when I can find them. (EIS in Los Angeles burned down last year and lost all their stock, good luck finding good, non-striped front glass on the west coast right now.) If it’s FYG only, my local shop can have all the fun they want grinding and bending it into place. Life is short.

He said that he gets the insurance and waits for a "new crack", which would imply that it was already cracked. So he is putting insurance on a window after the damage has occurred then making a claim.
That's what he is suggesting to the OP. He's telling him he should do it like this, to get his windshield replaced for "free" rather than buying a new one.
That's fraud. |

You guys are funny. Full coverage from the get go. Windshield gets cracked, insurance pays for a new one as that is part of my policies. And yes, I pay extra on my policies to add windshield coverage. Pretty simple bro. |

I was quoted $200 for a windshield without the top quarter tinted, but the glass has a green tint over the full window. Is anyone familiar with a windshield like that? _________________ 1978 Delux Campmobile

It’s good to be short. I have the band and doesn’t bother me a bit and since I’m short, it does help with late day sun. It is a FYG, no grinding needed. Fit perfectly. _________________ 1979 Transporter (sold)
