Hey gang,
I have a Beetle in the last stages of body restoration and it will soon be time for paint. I've chosen L51 Bordeaux red.
I'm trying to replicate the interior like this one from a photo I stole from the Internet.
Can someone tell me the color of the metal used for the seat frames and parking brake? I have access to a large powder coating shop and we can replicate any RAL color. I'm just not up on exactly what the interior paint colors are.
Thanks!

Hi r3dplanet, Some important factors not mentioned: 1) Date of production of your beetle. [even sale destination if known]. (Your photo did not appear in your post; perhaps it's hosted on another site? (Posting it on TheSamba ensures it will appear) -See Everett's signature line for info on that.
2) Model? (Standard, Deluxe or Kabriolett)?
Each will be determinants of interior colors as they were originally manufactured.
3) Any photos of your car or details on its history or future plans for it may help inspire replies and/or input.
Good luck on it!
Grant
P.S. Bordeaux Red is one of my favorite VW colors. _________________ 1952 Azure Blue 12G (LHD Deluxe 3-fold sunroof Sedan).

Thanks for posting that image.
I know from searching elsewhere that spray bombs in correct colors are available from from Wolfsburg West. But their own color charts don't go back to 1950. All the other color FAQs I've seen start at 1956. Maybe it's the same color as used in later models? I just don't know. And I dislike spray bombs.
Ideally I could see using my RAL color chips to match from a car at a show but these are Covid times. Hence my query.
In response to other questions the Beetle I'm building is not original or pure. Long story short, I'm not long for this world and I want my last project to be the Beetle I always wanted to build. The hospice nurse says that I need to have goals so this is it. I've had many Beetles, Type-3s, and I have a 914 that I've had for a long time. Most were done up for fun and then sold.
But since this is the last car I'm ever going to build this one is for me - the Beetle I always wanted for myself made entirely from parts I've collected over the past twenty years from other projects. I'm throwing a ton of money and effort at it to make it just the way I like: totally custom built from the ground up. Early body, IRS pan, big engine, rich interior. Bits from this year and that year as I see fit. In no way am I making a garage queen to impress judges. However, I do want the colors to be correct. I realize that making a custom mix-and-match makes it difficult to match models to colors but I'm willing to make it happen.
And it is. The body work is nearing completion and the interior is coming along. That's where I am now - resolving interior color issues.
Thanks everyone. I don't mean to be so wordsy or overshare. |
