HI,

I am in conversations with a seller of a 2000. I am wondering how viable a conversion to a manual transmission out of some other VW VR6 car from that era would be. Like, a 5 speed from a VR6 Jetta.

Looks like I'd need to swap:

The floor pedal assembly. Would one from a 1993 bolt (pedal assembly plus floor plate) fit in a 2000? Would the brake master cylinder from the 2000 bolt on here OK?

The transmission, bellhousing, flywheel, pressure plate, clutch, throwout bearing, slave cylinder from the VR6 car; also the shifter assembly. Would that be something I could retrofit into the EV, or should I get one from a 1993 ad then somehow jigger together?

Wiring. Will a 2000 EV main computer run if there's no AT to talk to? Or will it run, but with a permanent CEL shining away?

thanks

While the Eurovan transmission shares the same internal components with the other VW automatic transmissions of the era, from the input shaft to output shaft, it has a larger ring and pinion gear, and the bellhousing bolt pattern is clocked at a different angle. So, no, swapping in a domestic market 5-speed isn't really feasible. On the other hand, there are a few importers who bring in EV VR6 5-speed transaxles from Europe; they are rare, but available for about $5k+ (transaxle, axle shafts, pedal cluster and shifter).

Why not just make a custom set of wires with a Y splice in them. Then you could just run one distributor.

I don't think electrickery works that way
