I wear a lab coat, makes me feel really smart and precise with my work. |
I worked in a big industrial R&D laboratory for over 4 decades, and even though lab coats were provided for no cost (and cleaned for us), I rarely wore one. I felt that it was too hot and confining.
We started out with ugly mustard-colored coats, later changed to powder blue, then to white.
I dyed one black in the 1970s to use as a Groucho Marx costume for Halloween, several times. One year I was Groucho and Mrs. Cusser was Harpo. our uniform company provided the aprons...and "cleaned them" most of the time they cam back with no ties at all....some times clean some times not so much...and you never knew weather the uniform was gonna be yours or what when you get them back the next time...even though it had you name on it that I just never could quite understand. when they would give me pants that were either way too long or way to short I would make daxzy duke shorts out of them the route guy wasent happy about that....especialy when I asked wtf happened to my pants!!! |

The company I worked for provided uniforms and safety equipment including coveralls, aprons both disposable and denim and this was good. I also shopped Salvation Army for suitable work clothes. I could get shirts for two bucks wear them once or twice and shitcan them, way easier than trying to wash and reuse. Gloves, respirators, prescription safety eyewear. I miss the days of just having all this handed to me like candy.
Cuss I got to see the pic of denim apron you posted. I thought it was tastefully done but looks like somebody here gets nervous when they see a woman. I guess they’d rather see some old bastard wearing one so here it is.

Yea, I know which one I'm voting for!
Aprons are better than overalls in that you don't risk sleeves getting caught on moving machinery. Not as hot, either. Better for standing work, naturally, and easy to remove for a break. |

I like coveralls (overalls) for the most. Nice extra insulation in winter and nothing under in summer. I use a leather apron when welding cos long gauntlets for arm protection are enough elsewhere. I don't know how many times I stopped welding in the middle of the job cos my crutch was on fire before I started using an apron. Its an embarrassing look when the buddies come around and Im still using the coveralls with a 20cm roasted hole in the middle front! _________________ 58Euro 23 343208 The Ultimate Zimblewinder Machine.
