Before you start and calling me out that the Chimpanzee is not a VW well let me explain. A CHIMP was created in the late 50's by Scott McKenzie of the Mckenzie's Offroad supply house. Many of the CHIMPS have been carefully taken care of and others left in fields. I recently picked up one from New Mexico and currently bringing it back to life. I encourage all those who have similar interest in history and to bring them back on the road.

Thanks guys and sorry for the double take, if admin wants to remove the second set of images I am ok with that. Yes, it does look like it was set up for Corvair engine and guessing for rear end but the welds and tons of steel will be removed and replaced with IRS.

The front fenders on the Chimp are held on by 3 bolts. Scott McKenzie would unbolt them when he ran in the sand

Hello BL3Manx,

Yes thank you for the info, I did notice bolts are in line with the front section. I have a steel plate that front license plate once stood and got a hack job for towing bar.

I have a curved under aluminum panel in front like these two. I had to drill out the rivets holding it, to fit the tow bar to get it home

In looking at Bob's Chimp this weekend I plan to make somewhat a removable panel, its a solid piece of steal and will have to measure it out. My Empi has a galvanized front that can be removed with several bolts.
