Hello Syncro owners,
How did you install your syncro pully seal?
I guess I can try to use use my spare pulleyside ring and use that to tap it in, but I'd rather not (It's new and original)...
maybe someone here has the trick? |

I think that I used a large socket, but anything that is flat and about the right diameter can be used to carefully tap in into place.
There are of course special seal installation things you can buy but its not really necessary for this one. The purpose of that seal is just to keep things like water and mud from getting into the engine.

That would be a large verry thin walled socket.. It would need to fit in between the lips? |

So far I found this:
1 small glass the rim is too thick
2 a lid from a plastic can. Perfect fit but verry week

Are we talking about the same thing?
Seals are meant to be driven from the other side. There is a steel ring just inside the OD that can take the load.

Same seal position but the one you have pictured is of the 2wd version

Yup, sorry I could have been more clear. I was just trying to show the position. I do have a Syncro pulley but it is installed on an engine right now.

When I don’t have an appropriate size sleeve, I will use the removed seal and my brass hammer. The trick is to work it in evenly without distorting the new seal or popping the spring girdle off. _________________ ☮️ |

Unfortunately that doesn't work with this seal, the raised parts offer no structural inttegrity as they are just formed rubber lips. The recessed section is where the metal backing is. |

So, a seal without a way to install it. What’s it set when the case is assembled? _________________ ☮️ |

I got it in with no damage using the plastic lid seated in the outer groove!
Thanks all!

I am 97% sure you are joking but 3% of me says, "hmm why I wouldn't be surprised." _________________ '87 Syncro

Nope. Different seal and pulley for blocking water/mud intrusion. The 2wd version has a flat face, the syncro version has raised ridges that fit into an extra piece on the pulley. |

Of course. How silly of me to assume you were joking about that.
