Weird, are the clouds airbrushed in or altered in one or both?
Because I'm looking at some of the plants and grass as reference points and they look identical |
The one Ev posted is much clearer and the other one is blurry and a bit overexposed so might be a copy of a copy but I see some very minor differences in the plants in the shadow under the car.
It could be the same picture and if it were a marketing picture it could be that someone didn't like the clouds so had them airbrushed but I wouldn't rule out it being one of a series of pictures.
It appears that there is no driver in the car. You can clearly see the entire front drivers side door window and there is nobody in the car so this isn't a picture of a car driving down the road.
It is very likely the camera was on a tripod and they took a series of pictures to make sure they got a good shot. It was very common to take a series of pictures with exposures from a couple of stops under exposed all the way to a couple of stops over exposed. Light metering in those days was generally with a hand held light meter so it was far from an exact science. The process was called "bracketing".
In the time it took to do this the clouds would definitely moved and changed. _________________ Chris

Early design flaw... yup, you guessed it, the door check strap, passenger side.

Used a cheap plastic fuel filter, obviously. |

you'll also notice the positioning/focal length is slightly different (look at the length of road exposed behind the car) _________________ 58Euro 23 343208 The Ultimate Zimblewinder Machine.

I think it's just tighter cropping, not a lens difference. |

I had it labeled as a postcard image but not sure where I got that description - it was probably from eBay |
I have this one in my collection - definitely a postcard. _________________ My Beetles :

This is kind creepy to me:
Semaphore up, guy holding little kid.
Looks like a horror movie |
Albeit some pretty adept 'Street Photography' just the same IMO.
The horror film analogy being apt since the multiple figures offer up a beguiling, yet enigmatic possible backstory...
[wait: what's going on here and who are these characters?]
It certainly had me doing a triple-take.
I'd love to see more like these.
Thanks for sharing!

^^ First photo: I imagine that the three kids felt secure in this pose all together; catch any one by themselves and they'd have probably "behaved".
Last photo: The old German script on the wall is tough to read, but is "Hotel u. Gasthof Alte Post" (Hotel and Inn Old Post) which many small towns have. |
