My 73 brakes are shot. Does anyone have a total rebuild kit that you are happy with ?
SoCal imports has what looks like a nice kit with everything for around $ 200.
The similar parts at The Thing shop look to be double that, but I am guessing its all about quality.
Any recommendation would be appreciated. |

Rock auto. No “kit”, but it’s easy enough to order what you need & you can pick “quality levels” if you really think one manufacturer is better than others. I got all hoses, master cylinder, all four wheel cylinders, & front & rear shoes for $120-ish shipped. (I got several other items that bumped it up just over $200.) _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

You don't say where you are at, but what you need may vary greatly between a road salt state and other areas of the country. |

The most recent brake rebuilt I did, I used parts from CIP1.COM,
Here you have a video of the rebuilt on my YouTube Channel. Feel free to suscribe.

Psst, those are brake shoes, not pads. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

That is the actual tool to do that... most people use pliers... When I can I try to use the right tool for the job. _________________ 1972 VW 181 SAFARI 1500 cc GRB Trans-axle |

Eh, a majority of the parts for these cars are from China, whether they’re in a “name brand” package or not. I have installed hundreds to thousands of brake components from many different manufacturers from dozens of different suppliers & each is a crap shoot as to their origin & I have never had any of them fail suddenly or catastrophically and I can only count maybe three that were defective and those weren’t necessarily of Chinese origin.
There’s no reason to pay exorbitant fees for a “kit” from a specialty supplier when more often than not, it’s the same shit in a different box. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.
