I have the opportunity to buy two different buggies. One is chenowithe frame with a 1600. Very basic, engine, type 1 irs trans, kingpin, pedals, and steering wheel. Everything basically required to run, minus wheels and gauges for $2000. The second buggy is in rougher condition. No engine, needs paint, and has a swing axle trans that pops out of gear. It also comes with a spare swing axle trans. $1400. My thoughts are if there is any value in the transaxles, maybe sell them and start fresh with an ecotec + bus IRS setup.

Thoughts on the value of swing axles? Assuming both could probably use a rebuild.

You are almost certainly money ahead with the first option for 2K. That is $600 more than your second option, but you could easy blow a grand just to bring option two up to speed with the first option.

How are your Fab skills? If you can cut, weld, and make your own parts, then maybe the less expensive buggy that needs more work makes since. You can save a lot of cash by building rather than buying.

it is much easier to sell a runner than a roller. it is much easier to sell a roller than a basket case. getting the first one to runner status could be done before summer ends, and you would have the option to off load it if it does not come up to expectations. the second one would be a major money and time sucker.

I agree with buying the first one. I bought a basket case for $250 and am still spending money 8 years later! It would have been just as cheap to buy a frame kit and start from scratch and with less time invested.

6 volt swing $50-$75 core value.
12 volt swing $75- $150 core value.
