Very nice! Low and slow. What rack do you have on the cab? Did you put in the lights or come with? Link? |
The rack is a one off(?) VW-U variant and it came with the lights installed.
Two have moisture in them, so I'm trying to source higher quality replacements.
Here's the link to more info. |

Thanks! Those look nice and beefy. Will follow up. I'd like a rear rack for the doka too, and am collecting different styles to mix and match. _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

I'm making some hinged aluminum frames that will fit into the existing cover frame, so I can open them from 0 to 90 degrees, and have a built in awning. |

New to the club! No drivetrain But I'll be working on that. For now it's just little projects here and there, and research + parts collection.

Had a coolant hose blow while out on a cruise awhile back, had a time finding the 4 way coolant hose, but found one on ebay and had it shipped from Germany $75..not bad. Got it a month after I ordered it and got it installed, back in business 😀
Also scored some nicer rear interior door cards from an ebay seller who was paring out a doka

When I had a CS, the exact same hose blew about 20km from our holiday destination. We had to wait ~10 hours to get recovered and then ride along the 5 hour journey back home.
That journey taught me a lesson: Carry spare hoses. |

I bought this 1990/1 ex Bundeswehr Doka last year, just as covidcation began.
It had 96,000 km on it, it just turned over 100k.
Powered by an NA 1.7l diesel, she's slooooow.
I've rebuilt a turbocharged 1.6l diesel (from my 1984 Jetta TD) that I need to install, but I'm waiting to finish rebuilding a Subaru 5spd to take full advantage of the massive increase in torque!

The 2WD folks might could use this for your dropsides. Posted in the Syncro Doka forum. All dimensions approximate.

Speaking of gate add ons, I have a folding gate step, but the holes on my rear gate don't match up and there's only 2 holes on my gate. I have no backing plate for it, was there a backing plate made for it ? I don't mind making my own. I do wish I didn't need to drill holes into the gate but it's not the end of the world really.
Curious how others have attached the folding step, side or rear gate etc.
About these corner cables to hold the gates flat, they don't look strong enough to sit on the gate in a horizontal position...true ?
I'm inclined to build an under gate diagonal bracket so the gate, while horizontal can be used as a surface for a chop saw and on feed surface for cutting lumber or metal bar. I wouldn't want the top side tether in the way of materials. |

No backing plate on mine, it has a total of 6 rivets holding it to the gate.

I figure I’m going to have to fab my own cables so will make them as stout as needed for hauling 4’ wide lumber or whatever, maybe act as a work surface and lastly supporting my tucchus and a cooler of beer. _________________ Larry V.~

it's riveted on mine, OEM step (not aftermarket), on the right side of the gate.
For the corner cables holding the gate horizontally, I'd think a medium size steel chain is more suitable if you want to sit on it. |
