Alas, I have sold my 1986 Westfalia to a very nice new owner, and will be leaving this group. While technically I have bought a "Westfalia", it is on a Ford frame and built by GTRV.

I will be selling off my VW books, and lots of spare parts, Bostig and VW. (PM me if you want everything, I'll give you a bargain...)

I want to thank everyone for the many kindnesses. Every cold beer I have been promised after helping is still owed, hope to meet up someday.
My best to all...

It is always sad to lose such a valuable member!

So sorry to see you go but best wishes for your future.

You're driving a Found On Road Dead now, I'll stop to help. I carry SAE wrenches.

Fix Or Repair Daily 🤓 Dave!

I’ll be doing a complete fluid change and tuneup to the 4.6L V-8.

Then making it into my style of camper... where to put the foot massager?

You can still hit some VW events. Good travels!

JJeff: Aside from the fact that the 'new' "van" is newer and likely less rusty, and no doubt more powerful, what got you to go with a down-sized interior? I've had VW Splittys, Bay Windows, and Vanagons, and have been happy to see the breed grow its interior volume slightly about once per dozen-plus years. I was disappointed w/a Eurovan Winnie I bought and re-sold, in that the Euro-beds are narrower than the Vanagon beds, and the cubic volume in the Winnie is no bigger than the Vanagon. I haven't been over to Europe to try out a type 5 or type 6 to see if they have resumed growing the inside-- looks like they haven't. I have my eye on a more-than-92-inch-wide 1990s Chevy van in my neighborhood, to buy when he's ready to sell and build my own interior, with the bed going perpendicular to the long dimension of the vehicle, so as to open up a bigger living space than VWs provide. (Yes, I saw someone's video on youtube about cutting a Vanagon lengthwise down the middle to widen it 10 or 12 inches-- lots of work!)

JudoJeff,

You've been enormously helpful in a number of ways. Your posts were always informative, esp. those related to the Bostigs you converted and the fire incident.

Enjoy the new rig!

i think every domestic vehicle since 1995 has been metric, i know it's been a while.

now it's just hardware stores that need to make the change over Sad

There's so much to like about V-8 domestic vans. Except for the engine compartment eliminating all the foot space for the passenger.

JudoJeff, will you be posting progress on an Econoline forum somewhere? I'd gladly follow that.

I haven’t followed this , is this true now? It makes total sense given the two holdouts on the metric system...the USA and Yemen

My educated guess is that this is the new owner, I could be wrong but........
